The Zephyr Theatre is set to host the world premiere of “Midnight Screening” from April 14th for a limited nine-show run.
The play, written and directed by award-winning writer Tim Schildberger, stars TV and stage actors Ari Frenkel and Mouzam Makkar, as well as veteran stage actress Denise Moses. The play explores themes related to grief and mental health and follows two dysfunctional strangers who are accidentally locked inside an old movie theatre overnight and are forced to confront their issues.
Henry and River are the two strangers who have their own issues to deal with. Henry is struggling with a big life decision, while River is struggling to re-enter life after a sudden change. Both are experts in deflecting personal probing, but they find themselves unable to avoid each other’s curious probing after being locked in the old movie theatre overnight. The emotional confrontation that follows leads to surprising revelations, reality checks, and ultimately the realization that their lives may have changed forever.
Makkar, who has starred in TV series including “The Fix” and “Naomi”, plays Henry, while Frenkel, known for his work on “American Crime Story” and “Silicon Valley”, plays River. Moses, who starred in “Tony n Tina’s Wedding”, also features in the production.
Schildberger, who has won awards for his feature scripts and worked on the feature film “Borat”, founded Write LA, an organization dedicated to helping writers improve their command of craft and gain access to industry insiders.
Tickets for “Midnight Screening” start at $38, and the play will run at the Zephyr Theatre for three weekends only, ending on April 30th. 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. performances will be held.
