PHOTOS: Sheriff’s late-night search and capture

The sound of the chopper pierced the pre-dawn peace today as the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department locked down West Hollywood Library in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

San Vicente between Melrose and Santa Monica was closed to traffic at around 2 a.m., and sheriff’s vehicles were stationed at the entrances and exits to the parking garage and alleyway leading into the library.

Over a loudspeaker, deputies on the helicopter ordered the unseen suspects to surrender as they orbited the grand staircase of the Aquatics and Recreation Center from above.

Soon, deputies could be seen scaling the stairs, where the suspects were apparently hiding at the top. Before long, the chopper flew off and silence settled over West Hollywood once again.

The department couldn’t comment on the incident except to say that two suspects had been apprehended for crimes unknown. It was a minor operation compared with last week’s standoff at the Dylan Apartments but still a suspenseful moment for those in charge of keeping WeHo safe.

I missed the story here. My vision is going, but what caused the extreme action.

That drag queen photo is brilliant, and a perfect Time/Life image that defines WeHo in one snap. There wasn’t really much available information to go by to create a story anyway, but that photo more than makes up for it.

That’s no drag queen; that is a model with the new Block by Block uniform.

Sorry to say but remarks like this are what prevented you from being elected. Please use your intelligence more wisely. It’s possible.

This anonymous commentary from someone who sounds just like Shyne who seems to think it’s her job to lecture residents on being better. Be best, as Melania was fond of saying. I rather enjoy Steve’s commentary that often lampoons, satirizes and otherwise intelligently connects things with a much-needed dose of levity.

why do you have to show the drag queen? It is not related to anything.

The person in drag was there. Simple as that. Part of the landscape which was San Vicente at the time the pictures were taken. Shut up with your prejudice. Go live in Florida. We don’t need you here nor do we want you and your intolerance here.

This is not intolerance. This is a self willed demonstration of a likely mentally disturbed person to unnecessarily disrupt their surroundings. It is not a path to a satisfying and peaceful life. Everything you send into the lives of others comes back into your own.🙄

Drag queens work in the nightlife district where this took place.

I’m seriously confused why people live in West Hollywood if they’re this upset by a picture of a drag queen on the street?

Drag is art and it’s not going anywhere 🙂

Agreed. It’s not like West Hollywood – or California for that matter – is all of the sudden going to become red. Complain all you want – but nothing is going to change. Drag is here to stay. LGBTQ people are here to stay. You’re fighting a losing battle.

Drag is not art. But thanks for making Da Vinci, Haring, and Warhol turn in their graves.

Warhol dressed in drag himself and was infatuated with drag queens. They are featured in hundreds of his portraits and polaroids.

And I didn’t even bring up the credible theories surrounding the Mona Lisa…

Drag is art.

Drag is Art? Is it in The Louvre, The Met or the British Museum? Is it in Florence?

You live in West Hollywood or at least follow the happenings here and you can’t tolerate and condemn someone who does not live by YOUR standards. You’re in the wrong place and just so you know, your path to a satisfying peace life doesn’t fit everyone nor should it. Take your Nazi thinking and go away.

Unfortunately seem to have missed the point. They were not my standards but universally acceptable standards. This type of behavior has exponentially ramped up in the last fifteen or more years. Where it was initially accepted with people being were respectful towards it, now it’s become the main event. There is noting remotely Nazi about it. And there is little to no respect for original residents.

Its amazing how many bigots live In West Hollywood. They choose to live in the gayest city in the world and then complain about the gays. Its mind boggling. Go live in Kentucky!

Realizing you have somewhat limited scope, not everyone chose to live in the “gayest city in the world” although they appear to have taken over like a pandemic much as was the loud pronouncement at CC by the PS Commissioner Steele “WEHO IS A GAY CITY”. NO it was initially a city welcoming gay people among others in some type of harmonious construct, rather than the Alphabet duchys that have popped up and are engaged in local warfare. It’s like the warring Hatfields and McCoys by damn, not a purty sight.

Yes, I agree getting triggered by a picture of someone existing is indicative of mental problems.

No, not at all. But why the close up of the drag queen when there wasn’t a close up of the black guy in the picture with the bike rider? I was agreeing with Mike’s post darling.
