A unique multi-genre theatrical event, “Tales of the Transcestors,” is set to take center stage at the Greenway Court Theatre from June 16 to 26, in a collaboration between the Celebration Theatre and Greenway Arts Alliance.
Based on real accounts, “Tales of the Transcestors” aims to immerse its audience in the lived experiences of transgender individuals throughout history. It promises an eclectic blend of music, poetry, and one-act plays, brought to life by a cast of six artists of intersectional transgender experience.
This ambitious project comes with support from an arts grant provided by the City of West Hollywood. It joins a growing list of inclusive theater productions designed to spotlight often underrepresented stories.
The theatrical experience will conclude with a special Affinity Night on June 26. Trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive theater enthusiasts, along with their allies, are encouraged to attend this community-oriented evening, featuring a post-show discussion and light refreshments.
Shaan Dasani, known for his advocacy for gender diversity, has taken on the role of director. He is joined by producer Alex Hogy, another staple in the world of inclusive theater production.
The cast includes a diverse lineup of talents who embody characters from various eras. Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, French artists who actively resisted Hitlerian ideology during World War II, are portrayed by Amir Levi and Nicole Delsack, respectively. B Alexander embodies American civil rights activist and legal scholar Pauli Murray, while Mallery Jenna Robinson portrays Mary Jones, known as one of the first recorded transgender people in American history. Felix Garcia takes on the role of Jose Manuel Pachini, a figure from the Venezuelan oil boom era, and Alexia Jasmene brings to life Dawn Langley Simmons, an English author and biographer.
Each ticket costs $25, plus a $2 booking fee, and can be purchased through the Greenway Court Theatre website. As these stories span continents and centuries, “Tales of the Transcestors” provides a unique lens into the diverse spectrum of transgender experiences throughout history, offering a significant addition to the canon of inclusive theater.
This is going to be a huge hit. It’s hard to find tickets.
