On June 7th, Jewish Family Service LA was honored in Sacramento as a 2023 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur. Each year California assembly members and state senators honor a nonprofit in their district for the outstanding contributions they make. Assemblymember Zbur, a newly elected member of the California State Assembly, represents District 51, which includes Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica.

“I selected JFSLA as the Nonprofit of the Year because their work has impacted the lives of thousands of families in Southern California, including our most vulnerable,” said Assemblymember Zbur. “Their tireless efforts providing vital services to those in need, including food assistance, mental health support, aging support, a homeless prevention program, domestic violence services, and help for individuals with special needs and disabilities are truly remarkable. I applaud their exceptional work and am grateful for their contributions and dedication.”

Nancy Volpert, JFSLA Senior Director of Public Policy & Community Engagement, attended the luncheon on behalf of JFSLA. The luncheon celebrated how impactful nonprofits are to the state as employers, economic drivers, and partners to the government in helping address a wide range of issues, including homelessness and health, workers’ rights, education support to underserved students, the arts, domestic violence, food insecurity, mental health issues, aging, and the environment. JFSLA was among 114 nonprofits across the state that were honored this year at the luncheon, sponsored by CalNonprofits, of which JFSLA is a member.

“This award is an important recognition of the work that JFSLA does in the community and the impact we have on our clients,” said Nancy Volpert. “The relationships we have established with our elected officials help JFS do meaningful work. Their support for legislative priorities that directly help JFS clients, such as increasing CalFresh benefits, improving access to medical and health care coverage, and making the state budget process more responsive to the needs of our community members is critical. We can do this work because we forge partnerships based on respect, communication, and trust with members like Mr. Zbur.” The Assemblymember plans to visit JFSLA’s sites and programs in the future.

Excellent organization that has been serving our community for many years providing an array of services from mental health to food insecurity, from services to seniors to programs for families with children. Probably one our City’s strongest partner when it comes to providing social services to our residents. Congratulations JFSLA!
