The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has scheduled a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint on July 21, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The location of the checkpoint will remain undisclosed.

The selection of DUI checkpoint locations is based on data that indicates incidents involving impaired driving-related crashes. The primary objective of these checkpoints is to enhance public safety by apprehending suspected impaired drivers and removing them from the road.

Sergeant Michael Lennig emphasized the significant risks that impaired drivers pose to others on the road. Implementing preventive measures that reduce the presence of impaired drivers contributes significantly to improving overall traffic safety.

It is important to note that impaired driving encompasses more than just alcohol consumption. Certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also interfere with an individual’s ability to drive safely. While medicinal and recreational marijuana may be legal, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

Drivers who are charged with a first-time DUI offense may face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to having their license suspended.

It’s about time. Somebody must have sobered up…..and made a decision against total lawlessness.
