Liberace’s WeHo hideaway back on the market

The renowned pianist and performer Liberace, famous for his extravagant style and flair, also valued his private retreats away from the Hollywood limelight. The opportunity to own a piece of his legacy has now arisen as his former secluded residence in West Hollywood is on the market. Located at 8732 Shoreham Dr., the so-called “secret” home of Liberace is up for sale at $3.59 million, according to an announcement by the listing agency. This price is a significant increase from the $2.88 million it was listed for in the spring of 2022, before being sold in August of the same year for $2.6 million. A comparison of photographs from last year to the present reveals that the house has been renovated in the intervening months. The property is part of The Shoreham, a complex built in 1937, featuring 15 apartments and townhouses. The development was constructed by MGM Studios to accommodate its stars above the Sunset Strip, and its past residents include silver screen legends such as Olivia de Havilland, Joan Fontaine, and Marlene Dietrich. The 2,360-square-foot residence comes with three bedrooms, including two primary suites, three full bathrooms, a powder room, a renovated kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, and a laundry room with extensive storage. Aesthetic features include an original fireplace, stylish herringbone flooring, spacious high ceilings, and ample room for a personal gym. The home also offers a private roof terrace, spanning over 2,000 square feet, perfect for dining, relaxation, and enjoying views of the Los Angeles skyline, complete with an outdoor television. Though Liberace, a dominant figure in entertainment during the ’50s and ’60s, has long since left the residence, it retains a sense of his glamorous style. Liberace passed away at the age of 67 in 1987 but remains a symbol of opulence and showmanship. The listing for this unique property is held by Chris Laib and Michael Remacle of Sotheby’s International Realty.

Lee’s home was in the Hills. If he lived here it was not long. I went to a lot of dinners when Lee had his real home which was beautiful with exceptional views. It was not exactly beautifully decorated but the grounds and pool were great back then. Everyone went from studio people to business people as Lee had a diverse group of interesting friends and they weren’t all young and pretty. The Robert Wagners, The Robert Stacks, and Lee did most of the cooking. A wonderful guy.
