That’s a wrap!

Less than four months after this fast-casual salad wrap eatery opened in West Hollywood’s Ramada Plaza, Wrapstar has announced it’s closing up shop.

“Low traffic and high operating costs” were to blame, according to a flyer posted on the diner’s door Monday.

But the show goes on — Wrapstar still operates locations in Beverly Hills and Culver City.

These businesses do NO marketing research or planning before opening. The landlord does virtually NO improvement on the space. The businesses do no promotion or preparation. They throw up a sign and think they are in business. Why not offer samples during the first week or two..do something to bring people in. This building still has not taken the old Supercut sign down which closed over 3 years ago. How about cleaning and maintaining the sidewalk area and building to make it look inviting to come into your business. Good points. If you are going to open a business, especially in a place that has very high rents, you are going to have to be very active in marketing and promotion and be willing to do whatever it takes aggressively to draw people in. Get out of the box and get creative, or do nothing like that and the hourglass is probably running out on your time in business.

I tried it once & I felt it was doomed. No point in being too specific, I’m sorry it turned out so badly for them, but the prices were excessive for what it was, a small-ish chopped vegetable salad or wrap for $15. Their salad dressing was like jello, it didn’t even run onto the salad. So I asked the nice lady for vinegar & oil instead & she said they had no vinegar!

This is the result of the Weho City Council’s social experiment of requiring small businesses to pay a mayonnaise spreader more than a school teacher. Frankly, I’m surprised they lasted four months. When parking in the area can be $25 (I think the Ramada guest overnight rate is around $50), I’m not surprised there is “low traffic”. Somehow greedy landlords are still able to get businesses to sign leases for businesses destined to fail, due to the City’s policies. This is sad, but not surprising. Street parking is like $2 for lunch there. Often there’s time left on the meter, so it’s even less.

So if there’s such an abundance of parking, and cheap parking at that, there must be a deeper reason for “low traffic”. Could it be crime in the area, $15 lousy sandwiches, $25 an hour floor sweepers? Something is keeping people away in one of the most densely populated areas of the country, in the center area of the main Boulevard. I think it’s a sign of worse things to come. Thank you, Lindsey, Sepi and everyone else who continues to ruin the city.

why the landlord, the tenant signed the lease knowing the rent, and it is the landlord that is stuck. on the other hand you have no clue about how hard it is on the ground to do enough business to support the high expenses in this area that have been hijacked by the city council who thinks everybody should have the ‘government benefits’ package.
