The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station has revealed plans for its annual Community Academy, set to run on six consecutive Wednesday evenings from September 6 to October 18.
An Insider’s View
The Community Academy offers West Hollywood residents a unique and informative glimpse into the day-to-day functions of their local Sheriff’s Station. Those participating will have the opportunity to:
- Obtain a detailed overview of patrol operations, the primary force behind the station’s activities in West Hollywood.
- Delve deeply into the methods employed by specialized teams dealing with mental health issues in the community.
- Discover the specialized units, such as SWAT and K9 teams, which often function outside of public view.
- Enjoy a real-life experience on a ride-along with a deputy, seeing firsthand the challenges and realities of their work.
This event also represents a chance for attendees to network with the hardworking personnel of the West Hollywood Station and forge connections with fellow community members.
Following a pandemic-induced break, the Community Academy made its comeback in 2022. Past attendees have praised the program, highlighting how much insight they gained about the varied law enforcement techniques that contribute to the safety of West Hollywood. Reflecting on the experience, one previous participant stated, “Through the program, I became more aware of different units in the Sheriff’s Department, such as SWAT, Crime Analysis, and the Met Team. Engaging with various deputies and understanding their stories and reasons for joining the force offered a profound appreciation of the department.”
Join the Experience
The Community Academy is constructed for a hands-on, immersive experience. Due to its interactive nature, spots for participation are limited. Prospective attendees should promptly get in touch with Sgt. Jason Duron via email at whdcit@lasd.org or complete the online application to ensure their spot.
This seems an admirable endeavor for all those that missed out during 5th grade field trips.🙄
I’m a graduate of the 1st academy class offered. It’s well worth the time to take it!!!
Just do your jobs. Get out there and enforce the law. Residents are begging you to get involved.
Every member of the Public Safety Commission should be there every Wednesday (just to watch and listen. No talking) They mighty actually learn something.
I just came on here to give the same recommendation. PSC should be mandated to attend this Academy and fully participate.
Sign Shyne, Byers and Erickson up! It’s the experience they need!
