The City of West Hollywood is informing the public that Metro has organized meetings in September to update the community on the ongoing environmental study associated with the prospective Metro rail service extension to West Hollywood. These meetings will allow residents and stakeholders to share their views on vital aspects such as preferred routes for the Northern Extension of the Metro K Line, previously referred to as the Crenshaw/LAX Line.
Metro is in the planning stages of determining the final route, the choice of which will dictate whether West Hollywood will feature one to four underground rail stations. Community members are encouraged to join the discussions and share their preferences.
The scheduled meetings are as follows:
– September 19, 2023, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: A virtual webinar on Zoom featuring a presentation and a Q&A session. Participants can join using this [link](https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87336933668).
– September 26, 2023, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.: An in-person meeting at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center’s Doheny Room, located next to the West Hollywood Library at 8750 El Tovar Place. Attendees will receive the latest project updates and have the opportunity to give feedback directly to the Metro team.

The current phase of the project involves conducting an environmental study to assess the potential impacts of the future rail system. This study will help in determining the final route connecting Mid-City Los Angeles, West Hollywood, and Hollywood. The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) is expected to be published in early 2024, post which the Metro Board will finalize the project details based on a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA).
Three route options are under consideration: La Brea, Fairfax, and the Fairfax-San Vicente Hybrid. West Hollywood supports the Fairfax-San Vicente Hybrid route due to its potential to serve a larger portion of West Hollywood and nearby Los Angeles areas, promoting greater accessibility and economic development.
For the past six years, the city has collaborated with various groups to garner support for the Metro’s K Line Northern Extension project. As a longtime resident who has seen the Metro grow progressively worse each year, just the thought of stepping foot on one today is terrifying. It seems like there’s a stabbing or assault every day. They need the Guardian Angels, Charlie’s Angels, AND the Hell’s Angels just to keep that ride safe today.
