It’s the end of the road for Triple A’s WeHo office at 8761 Santa Monica Blvd.
The local branch of the American Automobile Association, a federation of motor clubs throughout North America best known for providing its members with roadside assistance like tire changes and towing, has posted a notice on its windows saying it will close Nov. 3.
The notice directs customers to its branches in Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
And….we lose another one.
The City Council and Board of West Hollywood has basically ruined the fabric of our beloved area: their ill-inspired ideology to over develop, regulate the highest salary for employees and the back-door lobbied permits given to projects that make traffic and life impossible for most of our citizen is now reflected in closures of business, horrible traffic jams and an uncontrolled crime rate. Homelessness has doubled, billboards are popping up everywhere and illegal short term rental has pushed low income residence away. Young people can’t afford to live here. There are people sitting on the Commission merely because of nepotism… Read more »
I wonder why they’re always busy.
Loss of direct human connections is truly dispiriting. It actually goes against the human condition as social animals. 🙄
Sad to see AAA leaving but alas I only went in once a year to renew my car tags instead of waiting for the mail. Hopefully something useful to the residents of the city will take its place.
I got new license plates there when mine were stolen, so shut up. Who cares that you didn’t go in much. How self centered.
Do we still need AAA? I pay ~$350 a year for my and family memberships.
I can tell you that for the low membership cost, TRIPLE A is a dependable insurance in case you run out of gas, have a flat tire, your battery dies, you lock your keys in your car, you need a tow… etc, etc. I’d never drive out of my garage without my Triple A card in my wallet. It’s worth its weight in gold. It only takes one use to pay for its yearly fee.
Very dependable, low cost, local, no lines, and centrally located. Its a very convenient community serving place instead of the long lines at the DMV. And alas, another empty storefront.
Exactly
Loved being able to walk to AAA and speak to them in person. I’m sure this is a case of rising rent, highest minimum wage in the country, the ridiculous benefit package required employees, highest sales tax in the country , etc. Why would a national corporation want to maintain an office in West Hollywood? Fiscally it makes NO SENSE to build the brand here when employee costs and taxation are not inline with other branches in the corporation. Weho has costed it way out of corporate America. Just a casualty of our pathetically short sighted, financially ignorant and corrupt… Read more »
It was great to have this. It’s a real loss. Pretty soon we’ll only have bars and pot shops.
That’s all we have now. More in the “planning stages” lol
Been a card carrying members since HS and not once have I had a need or want to go into a physical office. Less likely a case of the sky is falling and more a sign of the modern times. The demand for their in-person services has probably diminished since most can now either be done online or by phone. The sign says it all – visit us online or via the app.
Bank of America off Hilldale is next waiting for another celebrity owned Dance Club. I’m sure Heart is eying next door to expand LOL Then it will almost be complete boo boo
BofA is block up from Heart, That’s Bank of LA next to Heart. But you are correct in that the BofA with its dwindling hours and Serenity Spa closing this week (they opened a larger fabulous location at Sunset Plaza) the location is prime for a club or pot shop. So sad. Residents used to walk and do personal business in West Hollywood. Now we drive, app or online. No personal interaction, no camaraderie, no local business dedication. No friendships between residents and the business community. We are becoming a high end drink and smoke stop through SoCal. We used… Read more »
How moronic. First it was us bank and not b of a. Second, Heart can barely say open.
Try to know something before speaking.
Thanks
That office is always busy with helping people. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Well that stinks. They were a convenient place for AAA services including some that allowed you to skip the DMV. Century City closed a few years ago.IDK know where the Wilshire one is..
The Wilshire one is on the south side of the street down near SAG/AFTRA, at 5126 Wilshire; and they do also do DMV registrations if you’re a member. (Not all AAAoffices do; but I’ve used that one for that purpose as recently as ~18 mo ago) But yeah: It sucks that it’s yet another handy service business leaving WeHo. THAT SAID: Though I know I’m gonna get jumped on here for denying it’s all about the recent increase in local minimum wage; increases in already SKY-HIGH landlord RENTS are FAR more responsible for squeezing profit margins. Still: It sucks to… Read more »
It is too bad the City couldn’t do confidential “exit” interviews and find out why businesses are actually leaving.
They’d state the same “confidential” reasons that they now state publicly. The reasons, especially for large companies like BofA & AAA are always exclusively kept internal & they also try to exit as tastefully & as cleanly as possible without implying any offense to the community – or anyone else. BofA has been closing locations for ages & the AAA’s reasons are the same, as comments state here – the changing times, such as the internet & automated telephone transaction services. I don’t think we’ve reached the stage where businesses are moving out of West Hollywood because they’re driven out… Read more »
COMING SOON: Another Pot Shop?
Wouldn’t be the least bit surprised, Manny. (Alas).
Good riddance. I can’t think of a more mundane & boring business with a place of such prominence in our dying neighborhood. Bring on the bars, booze & dancing boys! Or a badass Mexican restaurant with Mariachi music & Flamenco dancers. Or a sophisticated restaurant with some cache’ – perhaps for older gentlemen who like to dine by candlelight & classical music. Or a piano bar like in the olden days, where everybody gets drunk, sings along, gets sentimental & falls off their bar stools. But I’m open to other suggestions. Just bring it on
How about a Shady Pines hooker bar for old queens still pretending it’s 1980.
Exactly. Quality rent boys don’t have the time or inclination to be hanging around a piano bar hoping to find a patron. Numbers is not coming back.
But quality rent boys have never gone away & they never will. “Numbers” will always be around – somewhere. What are they going for these days? The “quality ones”, I mean. You know, Steve?
I’d sign that petition lolz
Haha, thank you!
Good riddance to you sir. With an attitude such as yours, can’t imagine you add anything of value. Balanced, functioning neighborhoods provide a quality of life for most folks.
