𝚆𝙰𝚃𝙲𝙷 🎥 Fire breaks out at WeHo laundromat

A fire broke out late Monday afternoon at the Launderland Laundromat on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

Thick grey smoke filled the air in the establishment after a dryer near a doorway suddenly burst into flames. An employee of the Los Tacos restaurant next door used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze moments before L.A. Fire Department trucks arrived on the scene. Firefighters removed the charred remains of a load of laundry from the dryer, leaving them to smolder in the parking lot while they investigated inside.

WEHOville has reached out to LAFD for information on what caused the fire. Two homeless men were seen running through the laundromat shortly before it started; however, dozens of dryers in the building were labeled out of service Monday afternoon, perhaps suggesting mechanical failure as the origin of the fire.

Two hours after the incident, it was business as usual again in Launderland, with customers back to folding socks and underwear as if nothing had happened.

This laundromat has been unusable for years now by the general public. It’s a de facto homeless shelter, mostly for the mentally ill and substance abuse affected. This episode should not be surprising. I’ve seen them put anything and everything into the washers and dryers, the grossest of which is filthy clothes into the dryer that they don’t want to pay to wash first.

Why is it that everything terrible that happens in WeHo is always followed by mentioning the homeless… Robberies by someone who stole a car 500 miles away carrying AR-15s at a WeHo 500-dollar-a-meal restaurant? The culprits were obviously homeless though not many homeless can afford an AE-15, but hey, it sounds good, right? A burglary up in a high rise, and it must have been the homeless… because, well, who else could of done it? People with housing don’t steal things, right? Businesses who can’t manage to stay open through the post-COVID economy shuttering their doors? Well, it must have… Read more »

“Always”

I’d love to see just of few the articles that “always” blame the homeless.

I did not say the “article” always mentions the homeless, though in this case, it did. Stating the fact that two homeless were seen at this laundromat is like stating its address because there are homeless to be seen at this location 24 hours a day. It is the same with all three 7-Elevens across this city. They seem to be the only place in this city where someone is willing to help them with an occasional meal… There used to be 4 non-profits that provided meals to the homeless, not to mention a 48-bed homeless transitional shelter and a… Read more »

Could you provide a source link to your claims regarding the homeless shelters and meal services that were closed?

If two men were seen running through the laundromat (who does that?) right before a fire broke out that’s reason enough to suggest they might have had something to do with it!

Let’s ask the Sheriff’s office how much of our crime is committed by those around us who appear to be homeless.

It’s not profiling; it’s probability!

The most criminal activity in WeHo is in the Rainbow District and West Hollywood Gateway (Target), with pickpocketing and thefts by organized groups from outside the city. As Granny used to say, “Why do they rob banks? Because that’s where they keep the money…” Ask any cop you want, when you walk around wearing flashy jewelry and waving around a wad of money to impress everyone around you, you are basically placing a target on yourself for all to see… Don’t get upset with the neighborhood homeless because you offered up yourself up as a victim to organized criminals specifically… Read more »
