WeHo issues statement in support of Israel

The City of West Hollywood joins communities across the nation in unequivocally condemning the horrific attacks against Israel by Hamas. Terrorism can never be tolerated, and we are devastated by the violence in Israel. With a core value of respect and support for people, our city stands in solidarity with Israel and its people. All people deserve to live in a world free of terrorism and violence.

Our thoughts and hearts turn to the families whose loved ones have been killed, and to the countless many more people who are impacted by this violence. Locally, the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station is on high alert, and Sheriff’s Deputies are conducting patrol checks of Jewish community locations and citywide patrols to ensure community safety.

Innocents being murdered by both sides because of a “message”.

A terrorist response to a terrorist action. That should solve things…in 2,000 years.

I don’t even know where to begin with those Americans who support Hamas, but way too many supporters of Israel qualify their support by pointing out that Israel has been guilty of crimes against the Palestinians, so, in a way, they deserve some payback. Wrong! Israel has done nothing but defend itself from the constant barrage of incoming missiles from the Palestinians for years. We never hear about it because it happens daily, so it isn’t news. But when Israel strikes back once ….. it is breaking news across the world! Israel has offered the Palestinians, over the years, about… Read more »

You’ve already demonstrated ignorant bias. Help turn an empty mind around, research Jewish terrorism and the founding of Israel. But, I suspect you already know the truth with attempts to conceal it.

I so pray that someday my species, humanity, will come to see the value in character and not ideas that divide and defeat us. We are so much better than barbaric “tribalism”. The massive leaps in science that awaits us when we make that leap is mind boggling.

How did Sepi and Chelsea’s “fact-finding” luxury vacation to Israel turn out? Did our two anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian, (maybe pro Hamas too) Unite 11 backed Councilmembers bring peace to the Middle East? Why crickets from these two? They have lots to say all the time, but all of the sudden, crickets. Unite 11 doesn’t care that these two are anti-Israel, all they care about is they are pro $30 an hour bed-maker. Voters in the city really need to realize who they are really voting for. If Sepi and Chelsea really want to help, I’ll fund one way tickets for each… Read more »

I think they are busy planning their next secret luxury fake peace mission vacation. Maybe they are figuring out how to get invited to some luxury resort on the Black Sea, under the guise of trying to solve the Ukraine war, which of course is lots more fun than trying to fix potholes on Detroit Street, which is what they were elected to do.

Let’s remember together that Hamas does not equal those
Palestinians that are living in peace.
Just as Netanyahu and his policies due not represent so many Israelis.
Just like Trump and his Magas do not represent the majority of Americans.

I generally agree, but as both the good and the bad Palestinians get bombed in the coming weeks, they will all likely be more inclined to support Hamas terrorism. It’s human nature. Lots of problems/conflicts have some room for compromise and working things out, but I’m not seeing that happening with this one for a very long time.

IF there are any Palestinians who do not support this, and want to live in peace, they are victims only of their own leaders, not of Israel. Palestinian children are indoctrinated from birth to hate Israel and they never hear any other point of view. So your comparison does not hold up here; Palestinian and Hamas are pretty much the same thing.

We’re all victims of our leaders starting with Biden. As for what’s happening in Israel, it’s based on people victimized by religion. Believing in what some old guy preached thousands of years ago. As for the USA, tax all religions. Join the freedom from religion foundation.

You’re apparently unaware of the charity work that religious institutions do that, if they were taxed they could not do.

Roman Catholic Charities and Jewish Family Services are making millions from the US Government at the border for handling illegal immigrants. Don’t believe the USA Religious Industrial Complex “charities” are covering the cost! If they were taxed, then the believers could pick up the cost. In this ludicrous country, Scientology is a religion! As the founder, L. Ron Hubbard, stated… “If you want to make money, start a religion!” In this country, we don’t have a separation of church and state. Just look at Congress. Except it doesn’t apply in this case.

We find it hard to accept that any one group could indeed be this evil so we try to rationalize and either spread the blame or make excuses.

No. Hamas and the Palestinian people are this evil … all on their own.

The City of West Hollywood could have been more even handed in helping to craft a more informed point of view on this long festering problem by providing open forums and films to enlighten all sides of the controversy.. Apparently a film produced to illustrate the Palestinian point of view was restricted from being shown in Council Chambers. Ideally, human Rights should not be restricted in the process of understanding its foibles but this often is more of a talking point than a doing point.

The city council should prioritize local needs over advancing foreign policy goals in far away lands. The recent courting of Sepi and Chelsea by the Israeli lobby raises serious concerns about this declaration’s uncritical support for the Israeli government. While condemning Hamas’ war crimes is valid, the City has never to my knowledge issued a similar statement condemning Israeli war crimes against Palestinians throughout it’s 75-year expansion and occupation of Palestinian lands, as it is defined by international human rights law.

This declaration is convenient given the recent attack on Chelsa Byers for not speaking out against the Hamas attacks. As a general rule, policy is supposed to be made a City Council meetings. By issuing this statement, the Council does not have to take a vote that might put Byers in a “delicate” position. Unfortunately when the dust settles it will be apparent that without justice there can be no peace. That is what is missing from the City’s press release. In the meantime a lot of innocent people on both sides will die because their leaders still believe they… Read more »

Over the next few weeks, we will mostly see images of Israel bombing, taking revenge, and trying to send a message. The fact that they were first attacked will be long forgotten in a few days. There will be lots of images of Palestinians killed, and few will remember who and what started it all. And at the same time, we will see Hamas terrorists (remember, they are terrorists, not “militants”), torturing their kidnapped hostages, yet most people around the world will only see Israel’s (justified) strong reaction.

Which is precisely what Hamas was banking on and will get. The terrorist sympathizers will be successfully manipulated by these filthy animals.
