Anawalt Lumber readies closing of its West Hollywood location

Anawalt Lumber in West Hollywood is closing “in ten months or less” said one employee at the WeHo location.  The property has been sold.    The land spans from Robertson to La Peer and is adjacent to the Roberson Lane Project under development by Fariing Capital.

Anawalt opened its West Hollywood location in 1948. The original Anawalt Lumber was founded  in 1923 by Harland Fred Anawalt Jr.   The first location was in West LA at the corner of Sepulveda Blvd @ Pico.  This year the Anawalt Lumber company marked 100 years of service to Los Angeles community.

While the West Hollywood location has been sold to a developer the other Anawalt locations will remain open.

Faring Capital had an option to purchase the property with plans to extend the Robertson Lane project but the deal fell through after Covid.   The buyer is rumored to be the Fields family.

While no plans have been submitted to City Hall, the new development will stretch from Robertson to La Peer and is expected a to include a mixed use development with hotel, retail and new restaurants.

Exactly, do we really need any of this? Another hotel? Have they checked WEHO hotel occupancies lately? Also, from when projects are announced in this city it can take up to 10 years or more to see the functioning development assuming it even gets built. Take for example the Robertson Lane project, the giant development at the corner of Doheny and SMB, or the development at the corner of Sunset and Fairfax. We may never see anything in these spaces in our lifetimes.

Sad to see it go. Surprised it lasted so long. So hard to find, I often felt like the only shopper in the store.

Is on extremely valuable land

It’s “expected a to include a mixed use development with hotel, retail and new restaurants…” Groundbreaking. Visionary. Said no one ever.
