Six years after renovations started, the unassuming building at 7717 Santa Monica Blvd. has finished its transformation into the elegant home of West Hollywood’s newest cannabis establishment, PleasureMed.
PleasureMed represents a major expansion by Pleasure Chest proprietor Brian Robinson and a first for the industry in WeHo. This new venture is unique in that it combines a ground-floor dispensary with two restaurants, Irie and Hind, and a cannabis consumption lounge.
The luxurious 6,500-square-foot space which began as a single-story building is now a two-level establishment, complete with 13-foot ceilings, large metal windows and tiled floors. I
Customers entering PleasureMed have the option of visiting an apothecary-themed dispensary or dining at one of the two restaurants. While Hind, located on the ground floor, offers food and alcohol, Irie is situated upstairs, providing a relaxed atmosphere with cannabis available for purchase (but no alcohol). Patrons are not allowed to bring their own cannabis into the establishment. PleasureMed uses carbon filters to remove smoke from the air.
The menu was developed chef Wes Whitsell and features dishes like heritage chicken prepared with Damson plums, capers, olives, and oregano.
Operating hours for PleasureMed are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, while the restaurants Irie and Hind are open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations for dining can be made through Irie and Hind’s Resy page.
Does this affect this new establishment? California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill to legalize Amsterdam-style cannabis cafes in California. AB 374 authored by San Francisco Assemblymember Matt Haney, would have allowed cannabis dispensaries to convert their businesses into cafes where they could sell food and cannabis products and host live concerts. Although it is currently not illegal in California for customers to smoke or consume cannabis on-site in consumption lounges, it is illegal for dispensaries to sell non-cannabis products like coffee or food.
