Ariana Madix, Katie Maloney blame WeHo for delay in sandwich shop’s opening

The eagerly awaited opening of Something About Her, the sandwich joint in West Hollywood owned by Vanderpump Rules stars Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney, has been delayed due to “lots of hoops” from City Hall.

“The thing is, there’s inspections and lots of hoops we have to jump through,” Maloney said at BravoCon last week.

She said that as Lisa Vanderpump and anyone with a business in West Hollywood knows, things can be very difficult.

“That’s the update, some final things that have popped up in the eleventh hour,” said Katie as her final answer.

Updates on Something About Her were shared by Ariana and Maloney during the BravoCon panel titled SUR’ving Up the Latest with Vanderpump Rules. When panel host Karamo pressed for details, the pair hinted that the launch was imminent without giving a specific date. Katie acknowledged the tedious nature of the regulatory hurdles they’ve faced, including the need for a new water heater. This explains why their social media updates have become less frequent. Katie likened their challenges to those faced by fellow restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump and others in the West Hollywood area.

Katie described these last-minute hurdles as the final barriers before opening.

THIS IS PART 2 – READ PART 1 FIRST – BELOW THERE LESS THAN 35,000 RESIDENTS IN THE CITY. THERE ARE VIRTUALLY NO NEW RESTAURANTS OPENING (or many new business of any kind in the vast number & kinds of still very empty blocks with no business or just a couple, unlike pre-covid, where it was pretty full all comercial spaces and demand out paced available properties non stop for close to 30 years. Let me recalculate based on the slight error in City Statistics I made…. Wait … Add, subtract carry the four … You acting ally should have… Read more »

I hope they open soon. We have been waiting forever for this sandwich shop. What is the hold up? How about providing more details.

Neither of these women are “stars”: as is anyone else on overproduced and ridiculous “reality” shows.

That’s the point. The season started, it was scaled back to just the originals, it looked like a good idea and the end of the craziest of Reality Shows. What happened, was shocking to everybody, when they started NOBODY had a clue what, how and when the information (an original bartender couple, the guy was cheating on his 🧬 ng term girlfriend, cast members and recently bought a home together. it … Went beyond virL, beyond thermonuclear, people chose sides on social and national death threats were flying BEFORE THE FOOTAGE SHOT, ACTUALLY SHOWED THE CHEATING SCANDAL WAS ALL CAUGHT… Read more »

WEHO: The pot shop and sandwich shop capital of the world!

Around 30 years ago, the t.v. show 60 Minutes did a comparison of how long it took to open a small business in both Hong Kong and in New York. In Hong Kong, they got all the required permits and paid the required fees in under one hour. In New York, it took many months. What is disturbing are the unreasonable hoops and inspections required to make a sandwich, but when a resident complains about a neighbor or business violating a law, code enforcement invokes the “look the other way” policy.

That’s for sure. In West Hollywood we have the “code enforcement” ordinances that aren’t. That includes the highly paid “code enforcement officers” who always make excuses for ignoring code enforcement & wasting the peoples’ time & money. One “code enforcement officer” told us, when we asked for help getting a code enforcement code enforced. or at least further clarified, at our condo building, his last words were “When you’re on the board, you can make the rules”, a totally rude and uncalled for statement & not a word about trying to answer our questions. This is not unusual. They all… Read more »

If it took an hour or 2 to get approved, then who would employ the West Hollywood’s gluttonous staff? The vacation benefits, the medical, the PENSION. China, not a fan of the govt, does not put up with this ship. But in California, the more bureaucratic obstacles, aka, employees, equal more votes and on and on. No incentive for our public servants to save us $$$ or help tax revenues by allowing new biz to enter into our marketplace. HACK CITY HALL STAFF. I wish I knew now what I didn’t know in business school then, be a govt worker,… Read more »

Seems reasonable to have inspections and hoop jumping when you’re going be preparing and serving food to the public. Thank you West Hollywood; worth it to get it right.

It’s a funny choice to mention the water heater, which is just one issue among others that West Hollywood has come up with. My daughter, who has owned two award-winning restaurants in Vermont, has moved back here and joined their team to deliver this shop, and to get the data straight West Hollywood interference is crazy-making beyond securing food safety for the public.

It’s West Hollywood’s fault that they need a new water heater? The vague “lots of hoops” provides zero information on why and how West Hollywood is responsible for the delay in opening. Seems you like to publish unsubstantiated allegations with no evidence, proof, or even specifics. This is gossip, not journalism.
