A permit application submitted by Louis Vuitton for a 46-square-foot illuminated sign has been approved by the city of West Hollywood for installation at 8800 Melrose Ave., the building on the southwest corner of the Robertson Lane intersection that was formerly the location of John Varvatos.
The approval of the signage, along with a related electric permit application that has yet to be greenlit, likely indicates that the French luxury fashion house will be setting a popup or permanent shop at that location.
WEHOonline has reached out to the city and Louis Vuitton’s press office for further details.
The western stretch of Melrose has welcomed a slew of high-end shops in recent years; the entry of Louis Vitton would cement its burgeoning reputation as West Hollywood’s Rodeo Drive.

Great news!
Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH (which owns many companies, including Louis Vuitton), is currently the richest person in the world. One of his sons, Alexandre, was seemingly responsible for the desecration of the (now no longer iconic) Tiffany & Co. flagship store in NYC (Fifth & 57th). I will give Alexandre a personal kudo for his recent running the NYC Marathon in just under three hours (well, his being only 31 helped). I think the city should be cautious about LVMH..
Good news for the neighborhood! P.S. It’s spelled “Louis Vuitton.”
“Be still, my heart!” I was hoping that Sloans would reappear……
Welcome!
This is great news! Stores like Louis Vuitton are the only ones who can afford the new Weho wages and benefits requirements. Soon Weho will only be for rich people. I guess that’s what the city council members want.
With the cost of goods and services in this city, they will fit right in.
Redevelopment of that corner has been discussed so perhaps it’s a pop up.
