The source of the smoke that sent John Reed Fitness customers fleeing from the building this morning was a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit on the roof, according to the the L.A. County Fire Department’s Station No. 7.
Firefighters rushed to the scene at about 10 a.m. Thursday after smoke was reported billowing out of the brand new gym. Eyewitnesses reported smoke coming down from upstairs, but apparently there was no actual fire. LAFD was just beginning to let people return to the building at about 11 a.m.

Maybe if they spent more time constructing a building properly (they had YEARS) instead of covering the interior with decorative hoo hah this would not have happened.
