A suspicious object feared to be an explosive was removed without incident from Fairfax Avenue this morning by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad.
Deputies remaining at the scene said the object, located on the 1400 block of Fairfax between Sunset and Fountain, had a metal casing suggesting it might have been a bomb or some kind of incendiary device. As a precaution, the department sent out a mass alert through its Nixle system.
Traffic was back to normal by noon.
No word on what the object actually was.
My favorite “suspicious object” tail;e was some years ago. The bomb squad.circled the object for a while as it sat at doorstep then waded in. Turned out to be a fruitcake sent from Germany.
