albertz benda in West Hollywood debuted “Tony Marsh: Fever Dream Duets,” an exhibition of collaborative sculptural works, on Thursday at their West Hollywood gallery.

Tony Marsh — known for inviting outside artists to work with him in the studios of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) — created a series of so-called “duets” with 14 fellow ceramic artists, each of their pieces being unique and standalone similar to tracks from a music album.

The exhibit showcases his collaborations with artists such as Amy Bessone, Bryan Burk, Roger Herman, Anna Sew Hoy, Akinsanya Kambon, Heidi Lau, Ramekon O’Arwisters, Mai-Thu Perret, Christopher Miles, Jean Pierre Larocque, Jennifer Rochlin, Cauleen Smith and Tam Van Tran.

Each piece demonstrates unique approaches, starting points and an exchange of ideas, aiming to balance the artistic DNA of both collaborators. Marsh, an advocate for experimentation and advancement in the field of ceramics, saw these collaborations as a way to facilitate and amplify artistic expression.

Born in 1954 in New York, Marsh is now based in Long Beach. His work, influenced by his study of ceramic material behavior and thermal adversity, is featured in many prestigious collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
