Driver collides with deputy, shutting down San Vicente/SMB for hours

A collision between a dark compact sedan and an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. today shut down the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente for hours.

The intersection remained closed to traffic in the late morning, with cars being diverted through the neighborhoods north of the Rainbow District.

A sheriff on the scene said there were no serious injuries. He believed that both the driver of the sedan and the deputy behind the wheel were equally at fault.

They had the intersection closed for way too long for such a minor accident. It was still closed at 9am and made for a miserable commute. The Sheriff’s Dept. needs to consider the thousands of other drivers AND the increased potential for accidents by closing the intersection. ALSO….they had hours to prepare and warn drivers for the commute but they didn’t. They let everyone get trapped on the SM gauntlet where you couldn’t get out.

In many occasions I’ve seen cops driving irresponsibly without a siren on. It could have been that since it was 5am the cop assumed there would be no other cars therefore there is no reason to be cautious of upcoming traffic coming from a different direction or have a siren on to alert them.

Given the demographics of the drivers involved in accidents with law enforcement, the reactions can be quite different. The last time I crashed into a cop car, they took me in for questioning thinking that I did it intentionally❗

Sheriff trying to place blame on both equally is ridiculous. There was zero traffic on the road at the time. Either the deputy turned in front of the oncoming car causing them to get hit on the side (deputy fault), or they had their lights on going through the intersection against the light and were hit (also still their fault). Person should lawyer up.

That’s Law Enforcement🐷 talk for the Sheriff’s Deputy being completely at fault and this is the best they can do to cover for him.
