West Hollywood is set to commemorate its 39th anniversary of cityhood with the “2023 West Hollywood Day: State of the Community Reception + Mixer.” Scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 2023, this event will run from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM PST at the West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center, located at 8750 El Tovar Pl, West Hollywood, CA 90069.

Kicking off at 6:00 PM, the event begins with a ‘Mix & Mingle’ session, offering a chance for attendees to connect with fellow community members, accompanied by the soulful tunes of the Harrison Jazz Ensemble.

The State of the Community program will start at 7:00 PM. This segment is dedicated to celebrating the city’s achievements over the past year, providing a reflective look at the strides made in various sectors such as community development, infrastructure, public services, and cultural initiatives. It also serves as a platform to introduce and discuss major projects and new initiatives that are lined up for the coming year.

The event will conclude with the NextGen Mixer at 8:00 PM, a vibrant and energetic session featuring DJ Asha. The highlight of this session is the special performance by the city’s Inaugural Drag Laureate, Pickle, adding a unique and celebratory flair to the event. This mixer is designed to cater to the younger demographic, fostering connections among the next generation of community leaders and influencers.

Beyond the main activities, the event also includes refreshments and small bites, creating a festive and welcoming environment. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP. Validated parking makes it accessible for all attendees.

The founders of West Hollywood are hopefully sickened by the three anti-semites on the council. It’s only a matter of time before Sepideh Shyne and Chelsea Byers invite Hamas to riot on Santa Monica Blvd.

Why would anyone want to celebrate the overly expensive nothing burger that West Hillywood has become? It’s a travesty.

Although West Hollywood is nowhere near the wonderful, beautiful gay utopia it once was not so long ago, I do still hold fond memories of the many years I’ve experienced its history, including seeing Madonna pop up at the Factory on her birthday, chatting with Judas Priest legend Rob Halford at Rage, being an extra in a video Diana Ross and RuPaul filmed all night in front of Rage, seeing Erasure’s Andy Bell cover “Tainted Love” at Motherlode’s karaoke night, catching Cyndi Lauper and Olivia Newton-John play WeHo Park’s baseball diamond, meeting (and doing other things with) dozens of hot… Read more »

I read your article this morning early, 6:30am. I thought, give yourself the work day, you may change your mind. No. And still no, I don’t want to go. No, I’m not stuck in the past when I could walk down SMB safely at anytime of day or night past LA Sporting Co., All American Boy, the Greenery, Cafe D’Etoile, the optical shop, Milton’s Pharmacy, Rage, Hertz car rental, LA Dream Stuff, Hard Times, and it goes on and on. I understand progress and changing times/tastes. What I don’t understand is the tolerance for crime, homeless defecation on our lawns… Read more »

Sorry, not in the mood to celebrate. The West Hollywood I have loved for 25+ years is very quickly disappearing. Our main downtown area is nothing but bars and clubs a lot of which are closed until the evening hours. Pot is everywhere…now the city is pushing to “decriminalize” hallucinogenic drugs (hello?! have you seen what that has done to the cities that have already done this?!). Taxes are high, empty storefronts are everywhere as are the homeless and are streets are less safe than just a few years ago. These “progressive” policies that are forced upon us by union… Read more »

Careful what you are misrepresenting as “progressive.” The whole idea of drug “decriminalization” is NOT the capitalist exploitation of addict/victims. It’s about treating addiction more like a Medical ⚕ problem as opposed to an issue for law enforcement 🐷 . Basically sending addict/victims to treatment but, NOT ruling out sending capitalist exploiter dealers and drug lords to prison.

Business elites are empowered by the suppressive effects of alcohol & drugs because, it suppresses “emotional problems” caused by capitalist inequities and prevents worker radicalization. What you are seeing now is libertarian promotion and exploitation of addiction.

Someone asked me this morning if I was going to the 39th anniversary of WEHO celebration tonight. I replied, no, that I was not going to be going. I don’t want to have to make polite small talk with a bunch of our current city leaders who talk like they care about us, but are ruining our city by selling it to developers, big business, and unite here, local 11. I will, instead be lighting a candle in honor and memory of the people who founded our very special city, many of whom are no longer with us. G-d bless… Read more »

You were right to light a candle rather than watch a bunch of self-congratulatory bureaucrats. The nouveau establishment that has hijacked West Hollywood is writing a new narrative that excludes the reality of West Hollywood’s history. As a 32-year resident of West Hollywood, I was not represented in any of the slick videos presented by staff. As I have long said, the message is clear–these are practitioners of zero-sum policy rather than expansive and additive policy. Two generations are being erased.

Something anyone over the age of 35 should be concerned about the next gen upcoming.

Actually I’m seeing the NextGen kids stepping up and effectively taking on the epic problems caused by the previous generations.
