William “Bill” McNeely, a member of West Hollywood’s Older Adults Advisory Board, has died, according to city officials.

The 80-year-old boardmember, who hailed from Ohio but was a resident of the city for decades, reportedly succumbed to cancer. McNeely was appointed to the board by Mayor Pro Tem John Erickson.

“Bill was family,” Erickson told WEHOonline.

“I will miss his more than I can put into words. We would get lunch and talk every month and I will treasure those memories and the friendship and joy he brought into not only my life but also countless others. Bill’s dedication to the sober and recovery community instilled a passion within me to never stop fighting for that community. Rest in power my dear, amazing friend.”

This article will be updated with information about memorial services as it becomes available.

Bill was one of the nicer guys in the sober community. He did not have the same anger problems that are prevalent in so many others. He helped me become a better person and let go of my own anger management issues.

So sorry to hear this news. Bill was a wonderful spirit. I knew him since NYC days. On a visit to Weho sometime in the 90’s he showed me around town in his big red vintage convertible. He knew everyone. So generous and important to so many lives. RIP dear Bill.
