The City of West Hollywood is advancing its efforts to enhance internet connectivity for its residents and businesses. In a significant step forward, the city has initiated the development of its own municipal fiber network, a project that promises to deliver faster, more reliable, and affordable internet access.
This initiative is a result of a collaborative effort between the City of West Hollywood, Plenary Americas, and Digital Ubiquity Capital. The early phases of the fiber network, which utilizes cutting-edge fiber-optic technology, are already complete. The project’s next phase aims to expand this network, aligning with the city’s commitment to digital equity by ensuring high-speed internet connectivity is accessible to all community members.
Take the resident survey
Take the business survey
A crucial part of this expansion involves gathering input from those who will benefit directly from the network. To this end, the City’s Information Technology Division is conducting a community survey in partnership with Millan Chicago. This survey is designed to better understand the specific connectivity needs and challenges faced by residents and local businesses. The findings will guide the exploration of viable broadband access options.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in this survey, which is available in English, Spanish, and Russian. The survey will remain open until Wednesday, January 17, 2024, and is estimated to take about 10 minutes to complete. Participants will also have the opportunity to test their current internet connection speeds as part of the survey. The data collected will be crucial for the project’s development but will not be sold.
Those interested can take the survey at go.weho.org/broadband or learn more on the City of West Hollywood’s Municipal Fiber Network website at www.weho.org/services/municipal-fiber-network.
A fiber network connection is a smart move for the city of West Hollywood as it will be faster and more secure for the residents. Wireless schemes such as wi-fi can be intercepted and hacked. With fiber, there is less chance of internet content being intercepted and interfered with.
I just have a tablespoon of canned pumpkin everyday for my fiber so I’m good thank you.

Thank you for posting this for our community.
I discussed this years ago with the City.
