The sheriff’s weekly crime report reveals frightening details about two robberies committed within hours of each other by the same suspect.

Just after midnight on Friday, a woman returning to her home on Rangely Avenue was attacked from behind by a man who placed her in a bear hug outside her front door. The man tried to pull her into her apartment, but the woman pepper sprayed and punched him. She escaped and took shelter in a neighbor’s apartment. The man took her cell phone and fled.

Two hours later, the suspect entered another home on Rangely Avenue through the window of the kitchen. The homeowner, a woman, heard the ruckus and confronted him. He threatened to hurt her if she made any noise, so she ran out of the house. Deputies arrived soon after and arrested the subject.

The incidents on Rangely are extremely bold and troubling.

Rather than West Hollywood emphatically making a known priority of SAFETY FIRST, and duplicating that approach by swift action they have chosen an incremental approach that treats would be criminals with kid gloves. A strong policy first and foremost would be the best line of defense, eventually supplementing with security types. Unfortunately the city was too timid and presented the weakest line of defense first.

Every one of these crimes was committed by a so-called “man” or “men.” Good to know.
