WEHO CRIME REPORT 🚔 Week 2, 2024

The sheriff’s weekly crime report reveals frightening details about two robberies committed within hours of each other by the same suspect.

Just after midnight on Friday, a woman returning to her home on Rangely Avenue was attacked from behind by a man who placed her in a bear hug outside her front door. The man tried to pull her into her apartment, but the woman pepper sprayed and punched him. She escaped and took shelter in a neighbor’s apartment. The man took her cell phone and fled. 

Two hours later, the suspect entered another home on Rangely Avenue through the window of the kitchen. The homeowner, a woman, heard the ruckus and confronted him. He threatened to hurt her if she made any noise, so she ran out of the house. Deputies arrived soon after and arrested the subject.

January 8th

Grand Theft

• Location: 8900 block Santa Monica Blvd
• Date and Time: 01/08/2024 @ 0130-0230
• Description: An unknown suspect removed a cell phone and wallet from the victim’s purse while inside the club.

• Location: 400 block Norwich Drive
• Date and Time: 01/08/2024 @ 1700
• Description: An unknown suspect removed an unsecured electrical bike from the front yard of the residence.

Other Burglary (Attempt)

• Location: 8700 block Santa Monica Blvd
• Date and Time: 01/08/2024 @ 2201
• Description: A man opened the electrical panel and turned the power off to the building. The suspect attempted to pry the rear door open but was unsuccessful.

• Location: 900 block N La Jolla Avenue
• Date and Time: 01/08/2024 @ 1530-2000
• Description: An unknown suspect broke a rear window to gain access and removed a bag, shower kit, box of coins, and paperwork from the interior.

Vehicle Burglary

• Location: 1100 block N Ogden Drive
• Date and Time: 01/09/2024 @ 1800-1000
• Description: An unknown suspect cut the soft top to gain access and removed a bag containing a laptop computer, cell phone, and earphones from the front seat.

January 10th

Grand Theft

• Location: 7100 block Santa Monica Blvd
• Date and Time: 01/10/2024 @ 1453
• Description: A man removed miscellaneous products from display areas and left the store without payment.

Other Burglary

• Date and Time: 01/10/2024 @ 1500
• Description: An unknown suspect gained access to the secure apartment complex and pried resident mailboxes open and removed mail.

January 11th

Vehicle Burglary

• Location: 1000 block Harper Avenue
• Date and Time: 01/11/2024 @ 0232
• Description: A man cut a hole in the rear driver’s side plastic window and was reaching inside the vehicle when the owner of the vehicle yelled and caused him to run away.

January 12th

Residential Burglary

• Location: 7700 block Fountain Avenue
• Date and Time: 01/12/2024 @ 1645
• Description: Two men smashed a bathroom window to gain access and removed a television. Both suspects were found inside the residence by the homeowner and were arrested by responding deputies.

Strong Arm Robbery

• Location: 9000 block Rangely Avenue
• Date and Time: 01/12/2024 @ 0001
• Description: The victim was opening her apartment door when a man approached her from behind and placed her in a bear hug. A struggle ensued as the suspect attempted to pull the victim into her apartment. After punching and pepper spraying the suspect, the victim ran into her neighbor’s apartment. The suspect took the victim’s cell phone after it fell to the ground during the struggle and fled the area on foot. The suspect was arrested two hours later while committing a residential burglary, refer #24-00190.

• Date and Time: 01/12/2024 @ 0155
• Description: A man removed a kitchen window to gain access and was confronted in the kitchen by the homeowner. The suspect told the victim to be quiet or he would hurt her, and the victim ran from the house. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies and linked to a strong arm robbery that occurred earlier that same evening.

• Date and Time: 01/13/2024 @ 0250
• Description: A man used a stolen key card to gain access and removed headphones and miscellaneous clothing from the hotel room.

• Location: 700 block Westmount Drive
• Date and Time: 01/13/2024 @ 1400-2115
• Description: An unknown suspect bent the driver’s side door window frame to gain access and removed a leather bag containing cash and credit cards from under the front seat.

January 14th

Aggravated Assault – Other Weapon

• Location: Palm Avenue / Santa Monica Blvd
• Date and Time: 01/14/2024 @ 0045
• Description: A man hit a security ambassador on his back with a metal wrench after he was asked to leave the area. The suspect was located and arrested by responding deputies.

• Location: 8700 block Beverly Blvd
• Date and Time: 01/14/2024 @ 0401
• Description: Two men smashed the front glass door to gain entry and then cut open and bent a metal gate to gain access to miscellaneous pharmaceuticals. The suspects removed an unknown number of narcotics and fled the area.
