Chef Wes Avila is embarking on a new venture in West Hollywood this spring. He is collaborating with restaurateur Giancarlo Pagani and the hospitality group sbe to launch a new restaurant, MXO, an acronym denoting ‘Mexican Origins’.
The menu at MXO promises meat dishes inspired by Avila’s experiences in Monterrey. Avila remarks on the distinctive culinary culture of Monterrey, noting its relative obscurity in the tourism sector, yet its significant industrial presence. He aims to bring a slice of this unique cuisine to the forefront through MXO. The restaurant will not only showcase these flavors but also feature an array of Mexican wines.
Avila, who grew up in Pico Rivera, has been a key figure in the Los Angeles dining scene well before the launch of Guerrilla Tacos in 2012. His culinary portfolio includes the establishment of Piopiko in Kyoto and Ka’teen in Hollywood, the latter offering Yucatan-inspired cuisine.
The opening of MXO is scheduled for spring 2024, and it will be located at 826 N. La Cienega Boulevard.
Can’t wait to check it out!
Not a meat eater, but I wish him tremendous success!
L.A. definitely needs more Mexican restaurants. Can’t seem to find one anywhere.
This will feature Monterrey style food, so quite different than what is considered Mexican in LA. Give it a try.
