Kontrapunktus will spotlight the works of legendary composers who revolutionized the London music scene during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. This style, known as Galant music, laid the groundwork for the Classical music era and drew young prodigies like Mozart to London.

“The Londoners” is an ode to this significant period in musical history, featuring a repertoire that includes not only the classical pieces but also native Irish and Scottish folk music from the era. The program is set to showcase a variety of compositions, ensuring an evening rich in cultural and historical significance.
Highlighted performances include Charles Avison’s “Concerto Grosso No. 5 in D Minor,” inspired by Domenico Scarlatti’s work, and Nicola Matteis’ vibrant “Ground After the Scotch Humor.” The audience will also be treated to Henry Purcell’s “Rondeau from Abelazer,” a classic that continues to resonate with music lovers.
Other notable pieces include Carl Friedrich Abel’s “Flute Concerto in C Major, WK 46,” William Boyce’s “Symphony No. 1 in B-flat Major,” Ruaidri Dáll Ó Catháin’s heartfelt “Da Mihi Manum (Give Me Your Hand),” and George Frideric Handel’s “Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 10 in D Minor, HWV 328.” Each selection is carefully chosen to represent the era’s diverse musical landscape.
David Chang, a student at the Herb Alpert Institute at UCLA, is Kontrapunktus’ second principal violinist. He joined the group during COVID and formed a special camaraderie with his fellow musicians.
“It’s just a bunch of people just getting together and having our own ideas and putting it all together to make some wonderful music,” Chang said.
Tickets for this event range from $19.95 for seniors and veterans to $24.95 for general admission. They can be purchased here.
