Joe Clapsaddle, a longtime leader in West Hollywood’s business community, has died.

Clapsaddle played a significant role in the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, serving in various capacities, including as Chair of the Board of Directors. His advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community was driven by a strong belief in equality and inclusion, making him a respected figure in both his professional and personal circles.

A memorial service to honor Clapsaddle’s life will be held at All Saints’ on Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in Lower Sweetland Hall. The church invites those who knew Joe to join in remembering his life and contributions.

In lieu of flowers, the church welcomes memorial gifts to All Saints’ Beverly Hills as a tribute to Clapsaddle’s memory and the causes he held dear.

Rest in Peace, Joe. Your wit, your perspective, your passion and your charm – everything you brought to our little WeHo family will be sorely missed.

Very sad. Joe called me one day after reading a positive review of a radio show I was doing at the time. He said “Jimmy, it’s Joe Clapsaddle. I want to appoligize for being so late to the party. I’ll be a dedicated listener starting this week.” I thanked him and hoped that he became a listener. He did. He would send me little texts or messages referring to the latest show I’d done. I hope his transition was peaceful.

People in our business. community should be more visible to us residents. The Chamber needs to find a way to engage us more.

Joe was not only an active member of the business community, he was a long time resident and he just loved living in West Hollywood. Prior to moving to West Hollywood he was a deeply involved LGBTQ activist in Maryland. He was politically astute and delightfully witty. He was loved for both his dedication and his foibles. Joe is perhaps the last of the old guard of Chamber folks know for their color and outsized personalities. Joe will be missed.
