NEW RESTAURANTS ♨ Sal’s Place

Sal’s Place, an Italian restaurant with a 75-year history from Provincetown, Massachusetts, has reopened in West Hollywood. Located off Robertson Boulevard, the establishment is known for its emphasis on seasonal ingredients and a selection of pasta dishes.

Originally opened in 1962 by Salvatore Del Deo and Josephine Del Deo in Provincetown, Sal’s Place became a community hub for local residents, artists, and fishermen. Siobhán Carew and her daughter Michaela acquired Sal’s in 2016, aiming to restore its status as a community gathering spot. Carew, who also ran Boston restaurants Pomodoro and Matt Murphy’s Pub, brings a philosophy of hospitality that turns dining into a communal experience.

The decor of Sal’s Place in West Hollywood mirrors that of its Provincetown counterpart, featuring red walls, linen curtains, and intimate booths. The menu prioritizes ingredients sourced from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, featuring dishes such as Endive Citrus with pistachio, shaved fennel, and feta; Lobster Alla Vodka; and Filet Mignon with peppercorn mushrooms.

The beverage program at Sal’s Place offers crafted cocktails and non-alcoholic options, including the Chamomile Gimlet, Sal’s Negroni, and the Free Spirit.

Sal’s Place is a cash-only establishment. Reservations can be made by phone. The restaurant’s operating hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 5 pm to 10 pm, at 350 N Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90048. Follow them on Instagram @salsprovincetown.

Sal’s is the best! Food is amazing, great drinks, and the best service. I’m so glad they’re in LA now. Fun to have a little taste of PTown here in winter and this is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Cash only. In West Hollywood. Not going to happen. Not here. Perhaps Chelsea Byers can stand guard for patrons entering and exiting and a Public Safety Commissioner can be stationed inside to guard the register. This is bad trouble waiting to happen.

OR Bar (formerly the Gold Coast) only accepts credit or debit cards. Eventually, I think this may be the future of transactions, with paper money being so very Old School.

It’s Italian, so it must be good.* Thankful for this; finally something new and exciting. (*Thats a line from “A Christmas Story.”)

A pricey restaurant that will be storing lots of cash and customers will need to carry lots of cash, what could possibly go wrong? Maybe Block by Block will have a nearby kiosk.

Can save on credit card fees. Better prices or less stress restaurateurs must put on customers.

Wait until the robbers learn about all cash. Based on what has been going on in WeHo (need I cite any of the number of incidents at this point?), this establishment may become a prime target. Even more so if they attract an upscale clientele. IF (big IF), I decided to dine there it would probably be at or before 6 pm and, hopefully, I will be safe.

U no I was thinking the same thing. By publicizing their cash only policy like this & they’ll probably have a sign inside saying “Cash Only” that’s risking giving the wrong people ideas. It happens often enough without this kind of “encouragement”.
