The West Hollywood Pride Subcommittee received a comprehensive update on WeHo Pride 2024 from the Department of Community Services at their meeting Wednesday night.
Since its incorporation in 1984, the city has hosted annual LGBTQ+ Pride events, transitioning from the partnership with Christopher Street West (CSW) to its own WeHo Pride starting in 2022. These annual celebrations have become signature events, drawing significant attendance and generating positive feedback, which the city aims to maintain and grow.
For the 2024 festivities, the City Council has retained the structure from 2023, focusing on core events like the free community concert, WeHo Pride Street Fair, OUTLOUD Music Festival, Women’s Freedom Festival, Dyke March, and the WeHo Pride Parade.
The 2024 WeHo Pride plans include several key events: a free community concert at West Hollywood Park, scheduled for May 31, requires an RSVP for complimentary tickets due to limited event capacity. The WeHo Pride Street Fair on June 1 and 2, along Santa Monica Boulevard, will feature community booths, sponsor activations, and live performances, with music extending until 10:00 p.m. each night.
A notable highlight of the WeHo Pride celebrations will be the OUTLOUD Music Festival, also in West Hollywood Park, featuring an impressive lineup of artists including Kylie Minogue, Janelle Monáe and Diplo. The festival promises a weekend brimming with talent, including performances by Doechii, Ashnikko, Noah Cyrus, and many others.
The WeHo Pride Parade on June 2, broadcast live by KTLA, will feature three city floats, including one for City Council members and two representing the city’s many Advisory Boards and Commissions, with participants selected through a random draw.
City Council has endorsed a multi-year agreement for WeHo Pride production from 2023 to 2025 and initiated a co-sponsorship with the L-Project for the Women’s Freedom Festival. The Community Group Grant Program has up to $150,000 in allocations for this year.
The WeHo Pride website was relaunched in January 2024 to enhance accessibility and user experience, featuring the latest web development tools and technologies. This digital platform aims to spotlight the event’s core programming and provide essential information to participants and attendees.
