Pauly Shore, Comedy Store sued over alleged assault

Comedian Eliot Preschutti has initiated a lawsuit against Pauly Shore and his family-owned club, The Comedy Store, following an incident where he claims to have been assaulted by the club’s security personnel last December.

On December 15, after visiting The Comedy Store, Preschutti left the venue without settling his bill. He was approached by a server and bouncers who reminded him of the unpaid tab and informed him that they retained his debit card. After instructing the server to close his tab with a tip included, and signing the receipt, Preschutti alleges that a misunderstanding occurred. He claims a bouncer accused him of attempting to strike the server, subsequently grabbing him and throwing him to the sidewalk. Following this, several other bouncers joined in, beating him for a sustained period.

The altercation escalated when the initial bouncer allegedly shouted “this is for Pauly,” as he and others dragged Preschutti into an alley and continued the assault until he lost control of his bowels. The Los Angeles County Sheriffs were later called to the scene and detained Preschutti until the following morning.

Following the incident, Preschutti slept for around 24 hours before admitting himself to Cedars Sinai hospital due to severe physical and emotional injuries. He also mentions that a part of the assault was recorded and posted online.

The lawsuit filed by Preschutti includes claims for assault, battery, negligence, premises liability, negligent hiring, aiding and abetting a tort, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He seeks compensatory and punitive damages, along with coverage of legal fees and other appropriate relief.

Sounds like this court case will be a slam dunk for the state. That video is hard to watch on the soul. He is clearly in distress, pinned between the cars.

I wouldn’t say that’s “alleged assault.” That video is real, and difficult to watch.

I have frequently seen security personnel behave in a way that is totally unnecessary, although certainly not to this extent. They are hired not for their brains, diplomacy, and good judgement, but for their brawn alone. I’ve seen the same thing in recent years with TSA agents at airports. They have been given way too much power without the good judgement to balance it out. They can pull you out of line, cause you significant delays that can result in you missing your flight. And it is their word against yours! These are often low-skilled people who have little or… Read more »
