SUNDAY 1PM: Protest loss of parking in WeHo

Residents of West Hollywood’s East Side are meeting from 1-3 p.m. at Plummer Park on Sunday to protest the impending loss of half the parking spots on Gardner north of Santa Monica Boulevard.

The group will meet at the North Vista entrance to the park at the Lexington intersection.

City Council’s push to install protected bicycle lanes and other infrastructure projects on Fountain, Santa Monica and Willoughby will eventually deprive the surrounding neighborhoods of hundreds of parking spaces.

Just a suggestion… you don’t need to post this. But it would be great if we could thumb-up people’s comments.

LA is not for bikes. It’s a sprawling concrete wasteland of strip malls and freeways. Who would be crazy enough to ride a bike here?

Start with policing and then get the homeless off the streets. If you can’t do that—then get out of the way and get a real job.

Agreed, Why we have to cater to those hand-full of people, who are lucky enough to be able to take a leisurely bike ride, during rush hour traffic, is beyond me. Let them take their bikes to the beach or the bike paths along the river where they can be safe and not cause the rest of of us to double our commute times from the already horrendous commute times we already suffer.

Are you aware of alternative modes of transportation, such as using a bike to get to work or to run errands? I’d love if it was easier to ride a mile to Trader Joe’s and back on a bike rather than drive.

Riding a bike is impossible in my business. But glad you are able to enjoy that kind of life. I guess the world should cater around you. Just like we are forced to cater to the global .01%.

I’m pretty sure the 2 bike riders per day that use bike lanes don’t even live in the city.

Byers actually said that slowing down traffic is the goal? Has she ever sat in traffic heading East in the afternoon? It literally is a parking lot. It takes 13 minutes to travel 1 mile. She wants it to take 26 minutes? How exactly is that useful to the environment? Thousands and thousands of cars idling for hours and hours each day because the can’t move. These people are so out of touch. Bikes riders need to be more careful. It’s not driver’s fault all 5 of them are so reckless.

Byers thinks she has earned the right to impose her toxic ideological brain rot onto society at large. The arrogance of her uncompromising pronouncements is breathtaking.

I swear members of city councils never have to commute anywhere, or ever use street parking. I see about 1 -3 bike riders a day… and I cover a lot of territory each day in WEHO, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Studio city etc. Yet we are ripping up the entire city, making commuters lives a living hell, to accommodate about .0001% of the population. Now we’re going after people who are forced to park on the street because they can’t afford to own property, because the entire Los Angeles County has been sold to developers and foreign investors who have… Read more »

Byers has to go! She is happy to inconvenience motorists, which are the majority of us. There are few cyclists in WeHo, but the City is bending over backwards to accommodate them.

Did not inform the affected residents? I would be furious.

Correct. And even KNOWING that the residents were NOT informed that parking was being removed, three on the council voted to approve the plan :
ERICKSON, BYERS & SHYNE.
As Heilman said at the meeting, the neighbors will be outraged… and they are!!! Furious.

Meh there were a lot of meetings over the last several years. We heard it at Public Facilities Commission a few months ago and debated the same issue on parking spots vs bike lanes. I’m sure Transportation Commission heard the same. People have had plenty of time and changes to weigh in. They just didn’t show up then.

But campaign season is upon us and the most important thing is OUTRAGE, whether manufactured or legitimate.

Listen to what Bob Cheung says… they did NOT tell the residents they were TAKING AWAY parking. You know when a film company wants to film on your street they are REQUIRED to post a notice on each and every door in the neighborhood. That should be the city’s standard for the residents in the affected areas.
Consider this Andrew, if staff knocks on the door but no one is home, does that count as “outreach”? But in this case it is not really a question because NO ONE knocked on ANY doors.

I cannot believe what I just heard in the video tape! The MAYOR asks if the residents had been notified about the loss of 22, 56% of Their street parking. He states the importance of that information being necessary in order for residents to “care”. The answer from the staff person is, NO THEY WERE NOT INFORMED ABOUT THE LOSS OF PARKING! Even after hearing that, Erickson, Shyne and Byers vote YES TO remove the parking! This is UNBELIEVABLE! This is NOT what our elected officials are supposed to do , especially when what they so obviously want, majorly affects… Read more »

Two of these council members are directly responsible for the delay in adopting the City’s housing element. This non-action opened the door (wide) for money-grabbing developers to build six over-sized monstrosities. And… before the cries of NIMBY begin: these developments are primarily market rate and will replace rent-stabilized housing. And in the process, long-term citizens of West Hollywood will be forced to leave the City. People have to get involved and hold these elected officials accountable. With them, it’s all about soundbites. They don’t really care about the people who live, work, and own businesses in WeHo.

Meister (though she has taken full responsibility), Erickson and Shyne. John D’Amico started to the ball rolling and was so proud of himself. Lindsay Horvath was the only one who voted against delaying adoption of the housing element. Watch the Council
meeting from March 21, 2022- you can see it happen.

Please watch the discussion that took place at the council meeting, wherein the staff informed council that in fact they had NOT informed the residents on Gardner (nor the surrounding streets that will be affected) that the plan would REMOVE 56% of the parking. This is a residential street that is already over parked. Watch and LISTEN to what they say and then vote yes on the whole plan when there WAS an alternative. Vice Mayor Chelsea Lee Byers states, “I AM HAPPILY IN FAVOR OF INCONVENIENCING MOTORISTS — I WILL SAY THAT ALL DAY— IF IT PROMOTES THE SAFETY… Read more »

Byers is hostile to cops and cars and Israel. She has an obstinate ideological brain rot and she thinks she has earned the right to shove it down our throats. Hers is not a representative approach to democracy, it is toxic left-wing fascism.

Byers raises money for violent protests against Jews and Israeli and calls it “beautiful trouble.” Byers calls Israel an apartheid state. She is a bigot; white privileged woman with below average IQ who was raised among the KKK infested lands of Arizona. Her interpretation of world peace is when Jews are annihilated. I don’t understand why everyone is confused by her demeanor and action…. This is just the beginning. She will soon require West Hollywood residents who are “ZIONISTS” to wear a Star of David on BACKS… so ZIONISTS can get stabbed in the back—-or worse, get gang rapped and… Read more »

If you have leadership spreading misinformation about constituents, and funding violent protests against them, putting people in harm’s way … then why are we surprised when the same people, don’t care about removing parking spots? There is a common theme about this leadership… and it’s called ignorance, arrogance, and stupidity…. it’s all about “me me me me” and “how can I get a paid job as a dead-beat politician” or “when will I run for County Supervisor” or “when will I run for Congress” … and the biggest joke is the dude with the Phd. What a moron. Let’s vote… Read more »

How many people are biking around West Hollywood? It’s just another disaster waiting to happen when bikers get hit by vehicles. I would never ride around Weho. It’s another example of poor urban planning.
