West Hollywood Mayor John M. Erickson will attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August as part of California Congressional District 30’s delegation after being elected by fellow party members.
Erickson, who received 21 percent of the votes, will attend with fellow “self-identified males” Peter Kreysa and Marco Meneghin; “self-identified females” Analisa Swan, Shanna Ingalsbee and Christine Jerian; and gender non-binary persons Carlos Medina Alcantara and Rachel Bracker.
Applicants for the delegation must campaign against and receive more votes than others in their gender category to win. The top three men, top three women and top two gender nonbinary are selected for the delegation.
Erickson, along with Jerian, had originally been classified as “gender nonbinary” in a list of applicants released earlier this month by the California Democrats (CADEM).
Jerian told WEHOonline the gender nonbinary classification was a mistake on CADEM’s part; Erickson this weekend also claimed his misclassification was their error.
The trip to the DNC will provide Erickson, who is rumored to have his eye on a California Senate seat, with an abundance of opportunities to raise his public profile and hobnob with the movers and shakers of the party, as well as the honor of casting a vote for President Joe Biden to be the party’s 2024 presidential nominee in November’s general election.
Oh goodness, will they wear the black sequined camisole, or the Barbie-pink suit with pearls? The bigger question is whether they will attempt to justify this as an official city event and thus dip into the public purse to pay the expenses?
