NEW RESTAURANTS ♨ Carmel

Carmel, a new dining concept inspired by Tel Aviv’s Shuk HaCarmel, opens its door today at 7383 Melrose Blvd., at the intersection of Melrose and Martel, adjacent to West Hollywood.

The venue, previously known as the Village Idiot, has been revamped by a team of long-time friends and business partners, including Chef Asaf Maoz of 19 Cleveland NYC, nightlife and festival producer Liron Hazan, former music manager Ronnie Benarie, and Chef Yoav Schverd.

Designed by Nofar Mantin of NOF Design, the space reflects the essence of Tel Aviv’s Shuk HaCarmel. The restaurant features an expansive open kitchen that allows guests to dine at the Chef’s Counter, in cozy booths, or at the bar. The menu utilizes traditional techniques like a wood-burning oven and an open flame grill. Chef Maoz will incorporate elements from his Syrian and Italian heritage to create dishes using locally sourced ingredients from farmer’s markets and artisanal suppliers.

Highlighted menu items include Moroccan frena bread, a 72-hour fermented bread served with sour cream, matbucha, and Syrian olives; kampachi tartar on a chickpea tostada; and a ribeye cap with pomme purée. The beverage program includes seasonal cocktails and a selection of natural wines.

Carmel aims to blend the cultural vibrancy of a Tel Aviv marketplace with the modern dining scene of Los Angeles, offering an immersive experience that extends from dinner into the late-night hours.

Wonder how many people still around remember when the area around Crescent Heights and Santa Monica was known as Carmel, including the famous Carmel theater from the 20’s, later the infamous Paris porno purveyor.

Sounds delicious.
Good luck!

But do they know how the low-wage workers are actually working to destroy this city with their demands for higher pay?????
