West Hollywood is holding an open house to discuss the Willoughby, Vista/Gardner, and Kings Street Design Concept Plan after news of the upcoming project rankled residents in the area.
This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. in Rooms 1 and 2 of the Plummer Park Community Center, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. No advance RSVP is required, and attendees can enjoy light refreshments during the event.
The open house aims to provide an overview of the steps taken so far and outline the future course of the project. The Street Design Concept Plan has recently progressed from the initial planning stages to the Design & Engineering Phase. In this phase, detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates will be developed, which will later serve as blueprints for construction.
As the project moves into its next phase, the City continues to seek community input to refine and finalize the designs, ensuring that the final implementations meet the community’s needs and expectations while minimizing impacts, such as on-street parking loss.
Neighbors held an impromptu meeting at Plummer Park last month to voice their outrage at the reduction of parking on their streets.

Have you ever seen a bicycle or scooter stop at a stop sign? Of course not. Or run a red light when there is no obvious other traffic? Of course. Get ready for more of that if you are a pedestrian or in a car.
On Monday night, I spoke about how both getting rid of parking places in favor of bike lanes and how keeping scooters is hurting the older adults and the people with disabilities who live in our community. It puts us in danger, but the city council doesn’t seem to care about us at all. I hate the hypocrisy of how they usher in both disabilities awareness month and older adults awareness month, and then do everything in their power to endanger and inconvenience us. Their hypocrisy and thoughtlessness is astounding.
Vote for George Nickle for City Council 2024!
It’s always good of the city to ask its residents’ opinion AFTER they already have moved forward on a project that directly and negatively impacts them. 🙄 We need to clean house in November. Vote George Nickle.
Now let’s look at this more optimistically. Getting rid of parking is a good first step of getting rid of trucks & automobiles in the Great City of West Hollywood❗😎
It is imperative that anyone that wants to be heard to show up to this meeting. The reason is that the bike coalition has been very vocal on protected bike lanes and swaying public officials in getting what they want. Those affected by removal of parking and road diets aren’t heard as loudly. Numbers matter and we need to hold the city and city council accountable and have equality for all parties that are impacted.
REDUCING PARKING?
There’s actually a discussion about REDUCING PARKING?
YES ❗ There is already way too much parking getting in the way of banning automobiles from the Great City of West Hollywood and, becoming a wonderful carfree city.😎
Have you heard?…. they also want to allow pot shops to do away with the required security patrols that these shops must do to ensure there is no impact on surrounding neighborhood? Just another bright idea brought to by the city of west hollywood.
Wait for the Fountain Avenue disaster. City Council (Erickson, Byers & Shyne) are so out of touch. No empathy for the parking starved residents of this town (NOT A CITY). Well, WH citizens voted for this garbage. Will there be AQM studies held by the traffic congestion? That’s what we need to do next. Push for the environmental impact for 10 cyclists a day. F-ing geniuses we have here.
Join us 10 cyclist and you won’t have to rant like a psycho about parking aka a place to store your most expensive fastest depreciating asset. Then there will be 11 of us! 😉
We found Greta Thunberg.
