“LA Unscripted,” the half-hour TV newsmagazine with hosts Olivia DeBortoli and Jasmine Simpkins, arrived unannounced at BlockParty WeHo this past Thursday. The hosts were shooting their “Pride Segment” in advance of next week’s kickoff of WeHo Pride.
This airing will be part of KTLA’s Pride coverage on June 2nd. The show helps viewers discover Los Angeles, focusing on the people, places, and personalities that make the city and Southern California unique.
The segment also promoted the WeHo Pride Guide, which will be broadcast to millions of people. Everyone can read the guide at www.wehoprideguide.com. We hope to make millions of impressions and drive the message home: “Welcome to West Hollywood, we’ll keep you safe.” The guide’s back cover was paid for by the local businesses and organizations that supported it.
Michael Harrington, assistant manager at BlockParty, demonstrated the correct way to ‘clack’ the large fans often used in drag shows and other gay venues. The news reporters enjoyed the lesson, and so did the customers. BlockParty offered a free hand flag to the first 1,000 viewers who use the special codeword.
