West Hollywood continues to celebrate the artistic contributions of the LGBTQ community with its annual WeHo Pride Arts Festival, scheduled from June 14 through June 16, 2024. The festival is a part of the larger WeHo Pride season, when thousands of LGBTQ individuals and allies from across the globe converge on West Hollywood, Southern California’s largest Pride celebration hotspot.
This year’s festival will include an eclectic array of events, including art exhibitions, community dance classes, live music performances, and unique gatherings like a transmasculine comedy show and an LGBTQ-themed comic convention.
Festival Highlights:
- The Studies (Untitled Flags) Art Exhibition: Ongoing at the West Hollywood Library, artist Rubén Esparza presents his “Untitled (Flag)” series, which deconstructs the American flag’s symbolism to question its social and political history. Esparza integrates materials that echo his Chicano and queer identity.
- Community Dance Class: Scheduled for June 7 at 3rd Street Dance, this event offers a safe space for expressing oneself through dance, led by queer choreographers Laurel German and Aukai Cain.
- Noir at Nite Presents: Black Pride: An evening dedicated to celebrating Black LGBTQ+ musical artists at the Peppermint Club, featuring performances by Danni Cassette and NYALLAH, among others.
- Pride Pickleball Tournament: A pickleball competition at West Hollywood Park that mixes sports with socializing, set for June 8 and 9.
- Vitam Picturarum (Life in Pictures) Exhibition: Running from June 14 to June 23 at Plummer Park’s Long Hall, this photography exhibition captures everyday queer life through a wide lens, curated by notable local artists.
- Q Con by Prism Comics: Southern California’s exclusive LGBTQ comic con at Plummer Park on June 15, celebrating diversity in comics, games, and media.
- Big Dad Energy: The world’s first transmasculine stand-up comedy showcase, set for June 16 at the Actors Company Let Live Theatre, featuring emerging talents in the LGBTQ community.
