Former Councilmember John Duran disclosed he has/had sexual relationships with two of this year’s West Hollywood City Council candidates. The disclosure came during the May meeting of the WEHO PAC, on which Duran serves as Chair.
The query to Duran began after a series of calls he had made to friends and a number of former council candidates joking about a marketing campaign for “Cock” and “Ram” T-shirts in support of Jordan Cockeram.
In the 2022 city council race, the two worked alongside each other with the intention of pulling votes away from Robert Oliver and John Erickson. In November 2023 Cockeram told WEHOonline he did not intend to be a candidate in the 2024 city council race but had reconsidered at the behest of Duran.
Duran also disclosed his former relationship with West Seegmiller. The Seegmiller-Duran relationship took place for more than two years and is mostly common knowledge. The former sex worker and advocate broke up with Duran after a series of allegations concerning Duran’s association with Ed Buck. Duran supported Seegmiller’s pet project ‘the sex worker town hall’ which took place at the City Council Chambers in August of 2019. Seegmiller is a regular contributor to WEHOonline and the executive produceer of Rebel Alliance News on KPFK radio.
Duran serves as Chair of the WEHO PAC along with other members Dianne Abbitt, a long term West Hollywood community partner, Jay Handel, partner at the Woods Cannabis Dispensary, David Wood, the current Chair of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Nick Rimedio, the former Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and former City Council candidate and Human Services Commissioner Sarah Adolphson.

The real story isn’t that Jordan Cockeram slept with then Mayor John Duran… the REAL story is that Mayor Duran “rewarded” him by getting him into one of weho’s affordable housing units… the kind developers throw in to justify massive construction projects. Hmmm bit of a coincidence that the guy the Mayor is screwing somehow bypassed ALL of the elderly and disabled people waiting for YEARS for an affordable housing unit and immediately got a prime affordable unit in a brand spanking new building… one of the nicest in the city. It is sad that so much of John Duran’s incredible career as an advocate and activist for the LGBTQ community is not part of the public memory. As to this “expose”, I would note that at least two of members of the Chamber’s political action committee are former members of the Board of Directors of Boys Town media, which could represent a potential conflict of interest, depending upon who is in the race. As to who slept with whom, it seems to me that additional disclosures are in order.

Some people just like to hear themselves speak like experts on all issues pertaining to or about West Hollywood or take credit for yesteryear or what locals and people in the community started mentioning or taking on community issues that warranted debate or public discourse. Some people use the podium to take credit for the sentiments and actions by others or yearn for applause or speak to be recognized! I’m sorry but John does this to himself. Who told him to publicly announce that he has had sex with two people running for the city council? Sure, John has done some good things but John is also his own worst enemy.
It’s none of our business who John has had sex with. Also, what about their privacy rights? It’s not a question of being ashamed of anything it’s just completely inappropriate to disclose the information in that particular forum. John did it intentionally because he knew it would create this controversy. John is a very intelligent person. It’s just another example of his poor judgement and his need to control everything. The public has every right to be concerned about Duran’s behavior. It’s not puritanical to believe that someone’s struggles with sex addiction, and their exploitative relationships, will affect their ability to serve them. It’s also shocking to make the statement that everyone is being hypocritical. Actually, although it was widely known, John felt that he needed to officially inform the Chamber Political Action Committee, which I believe was the right decision for John. All I can say is there are a lot of different agendas going on here.
