The City of West Hollywood will host a community meeting to gather feedback for its next citywide strategic plan, WeHo 40. This free event will include informational exhibits, community organizations, food, and live entertainment.

It will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Doheny Room at the West Hollywood Aquatic & Recreation Center, located at 8750 El Tovar Place, adjacent to the West Hollywood Library. Community members are encouraged to stop by at any point during the meeting to learn more about the project, provide feedback, and connect with fellow community members. Translation services will be available in Spanish and Russian. Advance RSVP is not required.

This community meeting is the third in a series of events designed to gather community feedback for developing WeHo 40. The event will showcase draft elements of the WeHo 40 strategic plan and gather input from the West Hollywood community. The goal is to preview the plan’s draft focus areas and goals that will guide the City’s future. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences, ideas, and perspectives to inform the City’s strategic priorities. WeHo 40 project team members will be present to facilitate small group discussions, collect feedback, and answer questions. These activities will be repeated throughout the event, allowing interested community members to participate at any time.

During the community meeting, attendees will experience culturally diverse activities and performances related to the strategic plan. The event will also feature a small business market. Small businesses in West Hollywood and surrounding communities, especially those identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and minority-owned, are invited to participate by filling out a vendor application form. There is no fee to participate. Applications will be accepted and confirmed on a rolling basis through Friday, July 12, 2024.

The event will feature DJ Chinua, a Los Angeles- and New Orleans-based DJ, artist, and educator, who will provide the musical backdrop. An interactive art activity will be facilitated by Arts Bridging the Gap, a nonprofit that works with youth from under-resourced communities through arts programs. Conga Kids, an organization promoting social and emotional well-being through social dance, will provide a dance performance. Food will be provided by Angel City Catering.

WeHo 40 is the City of West Hollywood’s community-driven strategic planning process. The goal is to create an inclusive and equitable roadmap for the City’s future, building on the successes of past strategic plans. Rooted in 40 years of municipal history and looking ahead to 2040, WeHo 40 will reflect the aspirations, insights, and experiences of residents, local businesses, and other community members.

For nearly four decades, the City of West Hollywood has engaged in the collaborative development of strategic plans to shape policies and priorities. The City developed its first strategic plan in 1990. In 2003, the City launched its second strategic plan, Vision 2020. The development of Vision 2020 included participation from more than 250 community members and helped shape the City’s Mission Statement and Core Values.

Residents need to come to this event to “inform” City staff that OUR priorities are what should set City Hall’s priorities. While this sounds a bit like an indoctrination to social justice warrior values, this is an opportunity to be part of the solution. Your voice can matter.
