WeHo resident Rachel Schmeidler announced during City Council’s meeting Monday night that she plans to run for one of the two seats up before voters in November.
“I’m a single mother of two boys,” Schmeidler said. “I’ve been a resident of West Hollywood for 24 years, and I’ve spent the last 10 years working for LA County. Like over 70% of West Hollywood, I’m a renter.”
Schmeidler is a Principal Accounting Systems Analyst with the county auditor-controller’s office. She said she feels Council needs to place greater focus on external factors facing the city.
“What happens within 1.9 square miles impacts all of our lives and has ripple effects across the globe. In fact, the world will be coming to us over the next four years. No one is more excited about the World Cup and the Olympics than my boys, but the question is, are we ready? I’m sure we’ve all read about the crime, human trafficking, and other illegal activities that follow these events, and I’m concerned that we’re not ready. Our City Council must be a voice on this issue.”
According to her website rachelschmeidler.com, the candidate is also a multimedia artist “whose work has been mainly noted to transform celebrity mugshots into art,” exploring themes of “celebrity culture and communal schadenfreude.”
“My priorities include creating safer communities, building a sustainable local economy, and strengthening community services. The future requires that we speak up for ourselves as a community. My goal is to be that voice for my family and for all the residents of West Hollywood.”

With us, she has been manipulative, revengeful, and offensive. She lashed out at people who tried to help her. Especially when they were women, especially when they were attractive. She may seem a fresh face in WeHo politics, but before you vote for her, make sure you get to know her more than from a two-minute remark. Those who, like me, have had direct experience with her, cringe thinking she may… Read more »
Her art is interesting— definitely a good sign.
As long as she knows what “public works” means.
Happy to see new faces entering the race. Plus number one..she ain’t Erickson. Plus number two..Thrilled her priorities are public safety, and our local economy. Would love to hear what she would do to strength both.
Good to see new people enter the race.
Rachel would bring some new perspectives to the City Council. It is a bit hard to get a feeling off a two minute City Council comment but as a long term resident who is raising her children in the City, she is clearly committed and not someone who just moved here to run for office.
yes!
She’s not sitting at the table with the rest of the junior high girls, so, ew, get lost booger!
Good for Rachel!
