A man suspected of an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven was shot and killed by at least one sheriff’s deputy in West Hollywood, authorities said Sunday.
The shooting occurred at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Gardner Street, near Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A person nearby flagged down deputies, and when they found the suspect, they attempted to detain him, investigators said. However, the suspect produced a knife, and shortly afterward, at least one deputy opened fire, striking the man, according to the department.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No deputies were injured, sheriff’s Deputy Veronica Fantom told City News Service.
Investigators said a knife was recovered at the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
Anyone with information on the alleged robbery or the shooting is urged to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
Other news channels are saying he had a gun, not a knife.
Sounds like anybody but cops, especially LASD or LAPD, should respond to these mental health crises.
What a terrible outcome for a man who needed help, not a “heroic” gun battle.
A person tried to rob a store and had a gun or a knife. A psychologist is not gonna be able to do much to help the public in that moment. I would think that if you were threatened by somebody with a gun or a knife you’d want somebody to be able to protect you not try to sit them down on a couch and explain why they’re having a bad day.
And you know his mental health background how? He was a serious criminal robbing stores (and most likely people) then pulls a knife on a cop.
Probably one of the tens of millions of democrat’s illegal Third World imports to steal House Seats.
regurgitate fox news much?
Good for the cops, we need to rid this city of these people no matter what it takes.
WTF???????
Awesome Scott, defund Joahua 88
Agreed!
Touche!
I was in the ER at Cedars Sinai when the ambulance brought him in. He appeared to be deceased when the ambulance arrived at the hospital, and the EMT had already been performing CPR for nearly 10 minutes. The trauma team at Cedars was unable to revive him and pronounced within ten minutes after arrival despite their best efforts to bring him back.
I saw him on the street after they shot him and he looked deceased then too.
Meanwhile, last night around 11:00-11:30, two homeless men were fighting, throwing objects at each other and one was threatening to take out a gun and shoot the other – right outside Schmitty’s. I called 911 and while I was talking to the operator a police car pulled up, stopped at the blinking red light for pedestrian crossing RIGHT NEXT TO THE MELEE, and didn’t pull over. I told 911 it was pointless for them to contact the local police since clearly the police were not getting involved. And in all honesty, it’s hard to blame the police when there is… Read more »
I drove right by there when it happened. Almost got hit by the cop who blew through the intersection and fired off 6 shots within minutes of arriving. Cop with zero regard for the safety of others and an itchy trigger finger.
Slanderous comment. You don’t know what actually happened.
They shot through a car. They are lucky they didn’t kill an innocent bystander.
ungrateful wench. at least the police are protecting us.
Protecting? That’s what you call the murder of an innocent man in crisis?
Since when is armed robbery an innocent act? Jesus. You’d be singing a different tune if that person grabbed you and put the knife to your throat.
He’s a Newsom/ Gascone supporter (Soros Anarchy flunky)
” innocent man in crisis?”
Hilarious! What part of ARMED THIEF did you not comprehend.
So if the cops don’t do anything and an innocent person is killed you ask why didn’t the cops do anything. That is why West Hollywood is a target of criminals…people like you. Wait for the comments, you’ll see your opinion is typical of this town. Welcome to our liberal utopia.
What are you doing in a car? This is WeHo! You’re supposed to be on a bike or scooter!
I suspect this is a ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ scenario for you – Just can’t win!!
Spot on, Robert.
Yes….the Deputy sped there and quickly neutralized the threat to our community while showing zero regard for the safety of our community. I bet it takes you an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes.
Jenny, I agree with you. I live on the block where it happened. I heard the gunshots loud and clear. There were about 5 consecutive shots. That’s excessive for someone carrying a knife. One bullet would have sufficed. Cop with zero regard for human life.
Spoken like someone speaking from the comfort of their home.
