WEHO TOWN HALL brings the community conversation to the people

On Saturday, August 3, the WEHO TOWN HALL, located at 8594 Santa Monica Blvd., will open its doors. While this location serves as my campaign office, it is also available to all other candidates for holding community conversations. One of my goals in running for the city council is to elevate the conversation and include all of you.

For the next hundred days, through November 5, the WEHO TOWN HALL will host meetings and conversations on a range of issues from “Public Safety” to “How to Prepare to Open a Small Business in West Hollywood.” These conversations are open to all candidates and residents.

I’ve always been a “voice of the people” guy, standing up for the “little guy,” and that’s what motivated me to knock on a neighbor’s door to found the term limit initiative. The goal was to stand up to the entrenched interests. I wrote the “for” on the ballot, and the people won an overwhelming victory.

And when this publication was sold to interests out of state without a local perspective, I put up $80,000 to bring this baby back to WeHo so we all can talk. Over the past three years, we have encouraged and opened our pages to many residents to share their perspectives, and we have done our best to hold our local council members to their own words. It’s been a great journey.

I have put my best efforts into promoting debate and dialogue for all of us, but it has not been easy. People often do not share my vision to elevate the dialogue and debate. And today, we will turn the page.

As mentioned in my op-ed this past Saturday, “Moving WeHo Forward,” WEHOonline is firmly in the hands and under the supervision of Brandon Garcia. All candidates are welcome to send in their positions, and I’ve reached out to all the candidates to let them know these pages are ours, not mine.

Actions that speak louder than words often are not enough for some. To those doubters, all I can say is come to the WEHO TOWN HALL, listen to our ideals, and use this platform to create solutions to our problems. That’s my goal.

And to all the skeptics who think small, it’s time to think big. To those who do not understand the mind of an entrepreneur or believe in the ideals where community voices are always part of the conversation, join in. So, welcome to use the WEHO TOWN HALL. It’s free and for us.

Having a space where people can meet and discuss issues is really a great idea. Inviting the Chair of the Public Safety Commission to a meet & greet is a constructive way to get the residents engaged.
