A suspect in the altercation that left one man dead around 1 p.m. Tuesday on the 7900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard at Hayworth Avenue has been charged with homicide.

At 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) detectives responded to a call to assist the Los Angeles Fire Department with a victim outside the convenience store in the 7900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. According to LASD Homicide Bureau Lieutenant Daniel Vizcarra, first responders arrived at the scene to find one adult male, later identified as 68-year-old Armando Gabriel of Los Angeles, lying unresponsive on the sidewalk. Paramedics transported Gabriel to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Gabriel and another man, Ramon Casas, 48, of Bell Gardens, were involved in a fender bender in the convenience store parking lot. Both men exited their vehicles, and a physical confrontation ensued, during which Casas reportedly beat Gabriel, causing him to lose consciousness.

Medical personnel transported Gabriel to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. LASD detectives arrested and detained Casas, who has been booked into jail at West Hollywood Station on murder charges. He is being held on $2,000,000 bail, and his court date is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, at 8:30 a.m. at the LAX Municipal Court 144, located at 11701 S. La Cienega Boulevard.

Footage from the scene showed investigators gathering evidence near a white pickup truck and a small van outside a 7-Eleven store, with the area cordoned off by crime scene tape.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be provided to the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.

Thank goodness the suspect was immediately caught and jailed. The guy could have gotten away, but the crime occurred during daytime hours and,I am sure, witnessed by several people. With bail set at $2 million,he is not going anywhere. This is a sign our society is getting more violent and people are more willing to commit that violence.

Bail at $2M seems pretty high so I wonder if he has a long criminal record that is being taken into account? I have a feeling that Casas was the aggressor and Gabriel was just defending himself. It seems silly that a 68 year old and a 48 year old would still be fighting like twelve year olds over such a trivial matter.

$2 Mil is standard bail for a murder charge.

Crime just keeps increasing in West Hollywood. This is what happens when the city keeps reducing the sheriff’s department instead of increasing the number of officers. Safety ambassadors cannot help in situations like this, residents need trained police officers.

I remember that. I wonder if the suspect, Kisu Brady Brown, was caught and convicted and where he is now? And I wonder about the victim. Did he suffer any permanent injuries?
