You’re in for a treat at the City of West Hollywood’s Free Theatre in the Parks, where a unique mashup opera of Jules Massenet and Gioacchino Rossini’s Cinderella story takes center stage. The six-performance run kicks off on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 4 p.m. at Kings Road Park, 1000 N. Kings Road. Shows will be held every Saturday and Sunday through September 22. Attendance is free, but seating is first-come, first-served, so get there early. RSVP is requested at https://cinderella-weho2024.eventbrite.com.
Presented by Pacific Opera Project (POP) and the City of West Hollywood’s Arts Division, this reimagined opera blends the best of Massenet’s Cendrillon and Rossini’s Cenerentola with POP’s signature flair. The story follows a young girl’s journey from housemaid to princess, packed with humor, unexpected twists, and beloved characters like a charming prince, two wicked stepsisters, and an exaggeratedly dramatic king. The 90-minute, family-friendly production is sung in English and features a live piano.
Directed by Jack Zager, the cast includes Lydia Brown, Jessica Gonzalez-Rodriguez, Byron Mayes, Christina Pezzarossi, Dominic Salvati, Emily Scott, and Christopher Walters. Expect a performance that will leave you smiling and feeling “happily ever after.”
Founded in 2011, Pacific Opera Project is known for its accessible and affordable opera productions, drawing in both first-timers and seasoned fans. With nearly 50 operas under its belt, POP continues to be a vibrant part of L.A.’s arts scene.
