Thousands of cyclists and pedestrians flooded Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood on Sunday during for CicLAvia, the semiannual street festival which bans vehicular traffic on major thoroughfares for a day.
Bikes zoomed up and down the boulevard without having to share the road with cars and the dangers that come with them.
“This should be LA every day,” wrote participant Lavie Ohana on X. “But for now, a good step in the right direction.”
Many WeHo businesses received a noticeable boost in foot traffic from the event. Michael O’Brien, who owns landscaping studio Hommes + Garden on the city’s East Side, said his store saw more walk-in customers than it had all summer.
Drivers, on the hand, were less enthusiastic about the event.
“I feel like I’m going crazy hearing everyone loving #CicLAvia i get it fun biking on the other hand FUCK THIS TRAFFIC,” wrote JackoWelly on X.

I agree YES “this should be LA every day,” and we should mandate that Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood go car free permanently limited to bikes, scooters and, Public Transit❗ Maybe the entire Great City of West Hollywood could become a Car Free City. 💝
I am a car driver, and a bike rider. I live in WeHo, and work all over the county. I drive or bike to all of these jobs, and also bike for recreation. Like any other street fair, I think Ciclavia is a wonderful event and I enjoyed it as much as I enjoy Halloween Carnival. It is, however, simply a fun street fair and not a Petri dish for the outside forces hellbent on using West Hollywood as a laboratory for their naive experiment in hostility to cars in a major metropolitan area of hundreds of square miles and millions of people. When will these people learn ❓ With Big Business Real Estate Moguls as Landlords, small businesses will get destroyed. To survive you either need to be a Big Business National or International chain or you NEED REGLATIONS or Government Mandates as to who can own real estate & how much with full enforcement of Antitrust Laws and, possibly some reasonable rent control too.
