SEPT. 7: ‘Level Up!’ video game music concert

Fiesta Hall will host “Level Up!” on Saturday, September 7, showcasing an exciting blend of live video game music performed by Helix Collective. The event promises a unique experience for both gamers and music enthusiasts with a mix of epic scores and visuals from some of the most iconic and indie video games.

The day kicks off at 2 p.m. with a “Start Screen” panel discussion on video game music, hosted by Jennifer Miller Hammel of Classical California KUSC. The main concert begins at 3 p.m., featuring a 10-piece ensemble from Helix Collective. Tickets are priced at $15, with a donation-based option available for West Hollywood residents.

The concert will feature music from popular titles like Assassin’s Creed Liberation and Riot Games’ Lunar Revel alongside compositions from indie games such as Bladed Fury and Stardander School for Witches. Each piece highlights the work of BIPOC and women composers, spotlighting some of the leading talents in the video game music industry.

Helix Collective is a Los Angeles-based ensemble known for pushing the boundaries of classical music by merging it with contemporary styles and media. The group’s versatile performances range from film scores to dance music, often praised for their “beyond-the-ordinary programming” and ability to bring classical chamber music to life in unexpected ways.

The program includes compositions by Winifred Phillips, George Shaw, Edwin Wendler, and more. Attendees will be immersed in the sonic worlds of these games as Helix Collective performs alongside gameplay and game art visuals.

The event is made possible with support from sponsors such as BMI, Spectra Creative Agency, and Classical California KUSC, with additional backing from the City of West Hollywood through an arts grant.
