The annual Disability Service Awards were presented this week by the West Hollywood Disability Advisory Board.
This year’s honorees were Myra “Mikie” Friedman, recipient of the Lovedy Brydon Differently Abled Award; Brandon Ross Garcia, WEHOonline editor, who received the Media Award; the Disability Community Resource Center, recipient of the Non-Profit Award; and the California Rehabilitation Institute, recipient of the Business Award.
Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur presented the winners with proclamations thanking them on behalf of the legislature. Zbur also tweeted a tribute to WEHOonline publisher Larry Block, whose idea was the origin of AB1620, which gives local jurisdictions the power to require landlords to allow tenants with permanent mobility-related disabilities to move to an available comparable or smaller unit on a more accessible floor within the same building or property, provided the tenant is not facing eviction for nonpayment of rent.
Congrats Brandon and Mikie (and Larry!)
Cograts Mikie! Thanks for all you do for WeHo.
Nice shout out from Assembly member Zbur to Larry Block for the
“Yola Dore” bill.
Thanks Steve! ♥️
