Mayor celebrates re-election, warns opponents

While basking in congratulations from his colleagues and the public at Monday night’s City Council meeting, newly re-elected Mayor John M. Erickson took time to air grievances and issue a subtle warning to his opposition.

“I will not miss this election season because it became so deeply personal in so many ways,” Erickson said during councilmembers’ comments. “My only comment to the members of the public who continue to make it deeply personal is: People in glass houses should not throw stones. It’s literally as simple as that.”

Without naming names, Erickson accused his opposition of drawing city staff members into the campaign season’s conflicts.

“I’m saying that both as a resident and as the mayor of the city,” he said. “The fact that people running in the election took the privilege to accuse public servants of some of the most atrocious things for four-plus years is disgusting.”

Erickson welcomed the Council’s newest member-elect, Danny Hang, to the “first-timer’s club” and compared his integrity with that of his opponents.

“You stayed true to your values, which many people do not,” he said.

Retiring Councilmember Sepi Shyne — who was elected as an upstart candidate alongside Erickson in 2020 but chose not to run for re-election with him this year — praised the victory, which she believes validates their combined efforts in radically changing city policy over the past four years.

“You beat my historic numbers, and I’m so glad you did, because that is a testament to what the voters really truly support — and that is all of the very visionary, progressive ways in which we have moved West Hollywood forward,” Shyne said.

I don’t see my reply to the mayor elect’s “Catholic Christian Values” agenda nor rny advice about “warnings”…that’s okay with me. But John..not everyone in the city is a Catholic or Christian. FYI though…I’m not either and I find your categorization of your aims to be biased and actually quite offensive. West Hollywood is not a monastery or a convent. You sound as if you have been defrocked somewhere along the line.Any comment?

Warn is a very strong word. A person of interest about to move back to DC likes to warn his opponents in just about every comment he spits out.. I suggest that “reiterate, remind or say once again” are less threatening anymore politic. The object is garner positive feelings…especially in opponents

Neither he nor Danny were personally attacked during the election, what’s he going on about?

Yes! Danny Hang stayed true to his values…hopping on to Erckson’s back, cloning Sepi Shyne’s mantra, and using Unite Here Local 11 and StreetsFor All mega dollars to get name recognition from uninformed voters!

Will John Erickson be heading to Rome again at the city’s expense? To seek spiritual guidance, counsel and support from the Pope. So Erickson will be guided by true Christian Catholic values during the next 4 years as demonstrated in his disastrous performance as a self-serving creepy narcissistic political hack during the last four years? Perhaps he might be better advised to attend a comedy class on how to be a music whether that a boring buffoon. God help West Hollywood.

Christian Catholic Values? Sir…you sure do know how to appeal to the broadest audiences; well…let’s just say those who drink the wine and chew the wafer.

Ida, your invocation of the name of George Soros is a well known antisemitic trope. Your use of a pseudonym, rather than exposing your real name, shows that you are a coward, unable to express your hatred openly. You disgust me.

Robert, that’s a familiar line from sleaze that uses George Soros money, money that is responsible and at the heart of so much of the massive crime, murder and ill heaped upon Americans over the last 10 years. And here you are…crying racism. Defending a man that from his own mouth worships anarchy. Your trope is often referenced by Soros lackeys.
As for my handle, chew on rocks *(*^…it rhymes with rich. As for your self-pittying generalities and insecurity at the expense of others…You disgust me.

Soros’s Open Society Foundations is a sprawling grantmaking network that disburses over $1 billion to left-wing causes as its founder bankrolls the Democratic Party. Democratic lawmakers are often later forced to distance themselves from their policy wish list items. But this comes only after pressure boils over into the public eye. Even liberal cities dealing with skyrocketing crime eventually want civil society restored. New York Times columnist Charles Blow said the quiet part out loud in 2022: “Defund the police is dead,” conceding “not that it was ever wildly popular.” This came after Soros, as Joe Schoffstall reported that year, dropped tens of millions of dollars into the coffers of anti-police groups “used… Read more »

Well, Robert, your ridiculous accusations of antisemitism sounds like this to sane people: blah, blah, blah, whine, whine, whine … It’s laughable at this point. You disgust all sane people. Thanks. Have a great day.

Whaaaaat …… How do you see antisemitism in that?

It’s delusional! George Soros is a horrible human being and the world would have been a better place without him.

I didn’t realize that Erickson was a disciple of Trump. Dude, you’re a cycle mayor, you were NOT elected mayor and you’re not a real mayor. Get a grip and come up for air you pathetic soul. This election was bought for you by Unite Here because you really don’t give a damn about West Hollywood and don’t stand for anything; you will sell us out to the highest bidder and a higher office. There is nothing here to celebrate, only grieve.

These people live in a fantasy world. Only super rich people will be able to afford to live in West Hollywood. Most of these politicians are in the pockets of people like the MAGA Mani brothers. No developer is going to build affordable housing in WeHo unless they can make a ton of money. They are going to build luxury apartments with a few low income units included and that’s it. Unite Here supports these developers because they also adding hotel rooms. These people on the city council have sold out their supporters. They toss them a few bike lanes… Read more »

Agreed. If continued on this path, West Hollywood is going to become East Beverly Hills, accessible only to the matcha drinking, pilates stretched, lambo driving trust fund kids hanging out at community goods. Not the disenfranchised who founded this city and made it a creative haven. RIP West Hollywood. The Kardashianization of this community is sad.

Follow the money! The sweet-sounding Streets For All is a fiscally sponsored organization of the California YIMBY Education Fund which in turn is funded by Bay Area tech executives, billionaires and developers. These organizations, along with the toxic and intolerant ideologues their money elects through campaign lies and manipulations are merely stooges in the pursuit of billionaire profit. Add in the money and foot soldiers from Unite Here and they locked in three stooges for another two years to do their bidding.

What is Erickson babbling about? Is he talking about the City Staff that has mislead the public about loss of parking on Gardener? The Staff that didn’t bother to contact the Fire Department before applying for a grant to reduce Fountain to one lane in each direction? The lack of leadership from our City Manager; even Erickson said he felt we needed a new City Manager at the campaign’s only forum. But this is typical of a guy who accused anyone who disagreed with him of “spreading misinformation” and “fearmongering”. He is incredibly childish.
