WeHo dusts off boxing gloves as Trump heads back to White House

West Hollywood City Council is preparing to revisit its “resist” strategy from President-elect Donald Trump’s first term, anticipating conflict with his incoming administration. The proposed actions center around reaffirming the city’s progressive values and creating a framework to respond to federal policies they expect will clash with those principles.

Here’s what’s on the table:

  1. Reaffirm the city’s core values, which focus on respect, inclusion, and supporting vulnerable groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and women.
  2. Reestablish a staff working group to monitor and respond to federal policies inconsistent with those values.
  3. Authorize the mayor or city manager to issue statements and send letters opposing such policies or appointments.
  4. Permit the city attorney to join legal challenges as a “friend of the court” against federal actions deemed contrary to the city’s priorities.
  5. Develop new programs or services if federal support for existing ones is reduced or eliminated.

This isn’t exactly new territory. West Hollywood took similar steps after Trump’s first inauguration in 2017, creating a working group that issued public statements, joined lawsuits, and established a “Resist” webpage. The city has long prided itself on being a champion for progressive causes like LGBTQ+ rights, social justice, reproductive freedom, and climate action. With more than 40 percent of its population identifying as LGBTQ+, West Hollywood frames itself as a sanctuary for marginalized groups.

However, the language in this proposal suggests the city isn’t just preparing for potential conflicts — it’s all but assuming they’ll happen. The staff analysis even refers to “outrageous beliefs” held by Trump and his allies, predicting “more of the same, if not worse” than his first term. It’s a bold stance, especially given that no specific policies have been announced yet by the incoming administration.

The proposal acknowledges that these efforts will require significant time and resources, though it’s described as having a “medium” impact on staff workloads. City officials plan to collaborate with state-level resistance efforts — California has a history of filing lawsuits against Trump policies — and to quickly respond to developments at the federal level.

Whether this is proactive governance or premature alarmism depends largely on one’s political perspective. For now, West Hollywood is making it clear that it intends to stand firm on its values and position itself as a leading voice of opposition to the Trump administration.

MORE evidence that the Far Left Lunatics that have scammed (outside union money) control of the city council DO NOT represent West Hollywood.
What you NEED to do is gear up on how to handle the BASICS of running a small town. They don’t even have the capacity to run a Lemon-Aid stand on the corner of rainbow crosswalk, and are worried about taking on the president of the USA.
GTFU.

Why? He was a net-good for West Hollywood and the country. You have to be insane to think he’s going to do the horrible things you think he’ll do, that we know that the Left is craving to do, and has already done. Scratch that, half of you need your hard drives searched as it is.

Our city council needs to take a seat. Their far left-wing extremist policies have been destroying this city and our country for far too long. It’s a new day.

The comments below give me hope for this city. Apparently we are all not all a bunch of pearl clutching, sky is falling,“progressives.” This silly city “resisting Trump” is going to have about the same effect as homeless people refusing to buy Lamborghinis.

Amen to the other comments. The circle-jerk thinking that WHollywood has any standing or a drop of influence and can not consider that actually a good number of the community voted for Trump. Ugh… Much of WHolly is a lovely sandbox of little self-licking-ice-cream-cone squealing children. That is great fun in so many ways. But not at all to be taken seriously.

The council majority are fond of performative preening while prancing about on meaningless prattle. Monday night’s dramatic self-laudatory love fest was just the start of a few years of insufferable antics akin to those of a high school prom committee. Only Meister and Heilman are intellectually capable of doing the job, and asking tough questions, and fulfilling a basic role of oversight. The rest join the incestuous circle jerk of sycophants licking ice cream cones.

For me this is not only about sending a message to Washington, but sending a message to all of the LGBTQ citizens out there in small towns across the country. For many of them, this could be an isolating and fearful time as our community is being demonized in an attempt to pass new laws. In 2023 alone there were 523 anti LGBTQ bills introduced in states across the country. They want to scare and shame us back into the closet. I know that growing up I always looked to West Hollywood as well as New York and San Francisco… Read more »

Why? Name ONE law as reference? Demonizing woman because of the twisted logic that men are women and should be treated as such? I celebrate trans people, but you are NOT women, and will never be a biological woman. It reeks of stealing the equality women have fought so long and hard for…for what, a MAN.

Is there anyone on CC or City Hall that thinks Washington, D.C. cares what our juvenile CC means anything? FFS we gave the city key to Sunny Daniels? Who takes us as a serious force? I’ve not lost any rights for the past 16 years. Obama, was forced to allow same sex marriage because he wanted to check off the gay box and even then, that didn’t swing the vote, but he played the gayme. . He was a tool. And all of the gays fell for it. This resist is crap. Resist what? A peaceful transfer of power? An… Read more »

“Outrages beliefs” – Declaring war on people that voted for Trump. Cities should remain neutral politically. Like Trump cares. Pathetic.

Every single person who has ever been on the weho council is exactly the reason fascist Trump won: America doesn’t go for our woke nonsense. Although I personally agree with some of the woke nonsense, I’m aware to know in a national election, it’s a losing strategy. The Sepi, Lindsey Ericson Heliman types gave us fascism. So as basic civil rights are taken away, we know who to thank. Locally, it’s the rent control mafia that keeps these people on our council. Every single one of them.
