“It’s getting real but were here to win”  said Alex Jennings .  Richard, and his wife Darian, my first cousin, and their two children Alex and Skylar evacuated Pacific Palisades but as the fires began to rage Rich and Alex went back to fight to save their family home.

In the video above the fires approach their home, tucked into an exclusive area of the Pacific Palisades,. complete with tennis court and pool and surrounded by lush trees and vegetation.

‘Currently trying to put it out, we came all the way back here to fight it ourselves”. Using buckets to empty water from the pool you can see and hear them working in the dark of the night… playfully working through exhaustion.  ‘ Here he goes, “lining up, bang, direct hit, bang lets get another one quickly before it try’s  to rekindle.    One for one from behind the arc,  lines up for the free-throw, rebound Bosh, out to Allen, his 3-pointer, bang,  3 out 3, water is having a time out, time out to use it, Steph Curry from way downtown, ‘yes bang bang bang,  Steph Curry at the buzzer.   The fire close enough that a bucket of water can put out embers ready to catch.   A moment in time etched in father and son history.

“We got a shot to save it” as the two brave men worked in the dark of night with just a bucket and a garden hose.   As of this morning their efforts have proved successful.

The fires have displaced all three of my first cousins.   Jody and her husband Jacques were forced to evacuate their home in Beverly Park.   Jason was forced to evacuate his home in Brentwood, and Darian and Rich, who were in the center of the worst firestorm in the history of Los Angeles evacuated their home in the Pacific Palisades and then returned to fight.
