The inauguration of Donald Trump leaves many with an upset stomach. Trump swept all the battleground states. A map of the United States looks more like a red lobster than a blue wave. The elephant controls all three houses of Congress and the donkey continues to kick itself in the ass.
Some on the right bill Trump’s victory as a revolution of common sense. Some on the left opted to give up on America and left the country. Back here at home the progressive candidates and their union backers had no problem sweeping our local elections. But, underneath the surface lies red voices of the people who are tired of being told to ‘shut up’. “If I see another person who supports Trump at a party theres a wink and we know to keep quiet, it’s like a secret society” said one Weho resident..
‘At the local BlockParty shop we offered a selection of Kamala tee shirts during the election. A resident on Larrabee wrote to me: “was at the BlockParty and saw a Kamala shirt in the window we could not find any other political points of view in the store. A business and community that says it welcomes, celebrates and supports everyone, diversity, the business rather doesn’t do that and its fine turning away a good chunk of people with money to spend.”
A few weeks after the presidential election I stood on line at a local donut shop. “He made a great selection in Matt Gaetz, said the cashier said to the customer “but I’m not sure about little Marco Rubio.” the customer replied, “anybody but Harris”. Over the counter conversation that was not in Texas or Tennessee, instead it was right here in West Hollywood.
“A local pizza place celebrated after the election of Trump, “we need him, I voted for Obama and Clinton but now, the business is so bad, the people are so crazy, the government spends too much money and the border” they said. “I’m very happy”.
And this past week as Trump was inaugurated for a second term and planned a trip to Los Angeles to tour the wildfires I pondered if the Trump ban, issued by former West Hollywood Council Mayor Lindsey Horvath in 2021 was still in effect. https://wehoonline.com/2016/04/10/weho-mayor-horvath-discusses-ban-trump-msnbc/ A few days later Trump supporters rallied in Weho for Trump and against Horvath. https://wehoonline.com/2016/04/14/trump-supporters-rally-for-him-and-against-weho-mayor-horvath/.
Horvath is now the Los Angeles County Supervisor. I wondered if she might welcome the President to her District to view the devastation. But yesterday as President Trump visited and held a press conference in Horvath’s district our County Supervisor did not have a seat at the table. Supervisor Barger, Janet Wu and other dignitaries were on the dais. Horvath’s was in attendance as shown on her Instagram account.
The City of West Hollywood did not waste any time. On January 22nd, just two days after President Trump was inaugurated the public information office sent a press release to ‘Reaffirms its Core Values and its Deep Commitment to the Fundameetal Rights of Community Members. The press release continues: At the regular meeting on Monday, December 16th 2024 City Council of the City of West Hollywood approved several actions to respond to the incoming administration”. The item voted on and approved a month before the administration was to take office.
Perhaps the city should sponsor a course in Trump Derangement Syndrome. I’ve had to overcome it myself. Each member of the city council would be required to take the course and see both points of views and represent all the residents of West Hollywood. There are approximately 3500 registered Republicans and almost 7000 no party preference among Weho voters. About 1/3 of Weho is not a registered Democrat. Nobody on the city council acknowledged the need to hear all sides and look at themselves to see how to find common ground.
But to our neighbor on Larrabee.. that Trump fan .. its coming to a local shop near you. Diversity and Inclusion is not only shades of blue.
tRumpism is alive at Framing Gallery located at 8527 Santa Monica Blvd. The owner has lamented how once he tells perspective love interests that he’s a tRump supporter, he doesn’t get a 2nd date. Back in 2008 we as a community boycotted El Coyote because the manager donated to Yes on Prop 8, this guy sends his money to tRump causes. He texted me that Kamala Harris was Indian and she’ll do, “What ever it takes to win a vote.” This isn’t libel or slander, I have the receipts! There are other framing businesses is WeHo, I’d suggest moving your… Read more »
Watching Trump bash Bass is my favorite pastime. Keep voting blue and let the mf’er burn to the ground, literally.
Oh, someone disagrees with your politics? You’re such a victim! WAAAAAAA!!
Yes, this is Liberalism at work. Liberalism is divided into two categories: Conservative and Progressive. Its the primary ideology of the United States. What both sides agree on the most is private property. What or who is considered private property, and who gets to own things? This is what led to Nazi Germany in the first place. It’s the justification used to slaughter indigenous people for centuries, and steal land- land we currently live on. Is it really a shock to Progressives when their former blue partners switched to red and joined Conservatism? My favorite is to hear Liberals say,… Read more »

Yes, people who aren’t old red crust know this as the Hail Hydra moment in any Marvel story. And Nazis like that should “keep quiet.”
Bravo!!!
well said.
That old saw: Whatever something firmly purports itself to be, most often the opposite is the reality.” When buzzy things such as diversity, affirming and welcoming, public safety, “the Creative City” are said, well…. . It’s the tale of the self-licking ice cream cone.
Lindsey Horvath sitting at a table with Trump is a laughable thought. She’s even smart enough to know she’s better off keeping her distance.
So long as horvath , Erickson , Byers and the like, continue with their ridiculous and insane agendas, more and more people will look elsewhere for stability and security and yes, common sense. Democratic Party is eating itself away from the core. It’s a real shame, and a travesty that the above mentioned are too ignorant and/or self serving, to understand.
Good balancing of ideas, Larry.
I personally think the TDS is on the side of his supporters, since it seems go beyond any inkling of common sense.
Horvath wasn’t invited by POTUS, which is why she wasn’t there – at least I believe that is SOP.
Excellent! Four more years of Mr. Donald Trump! As a gay man, I feel so much more safe, secure, and proud as an American. He is already making America great again and always has, even on the first round. Mr. Trump is a genuine American hero with a gorgeous First Lady wife and inspiring family. If just his mere greatness makes some act the fool, as we often see in the media, that’s ok. Everyone needs a good laugh now and again to keep life fun and exciting. Live and let live, and respect all. It’s going to be an… Read more »
“It’s going to be an incredible four years in this country and around the world.” Yeah, tell that to your trans brothers and sisters and some of the treasured foreign employees at the businesses you frequent. I’m curious about what his sweeping changes will do, but if you’re preaching “Live and let live, and respect all” you need to walk the walk and talk the talk by at least acknowledging how dehumanizing some of the mandates are-particularly to your very own community, as a gay man. And what exactly is “inspiring” in a family steeped in white collar crime? I’d… Read more »

Larry, you can look at how each precinct voted in West Hollywood. Most of them are 75%-85% for Kamala Harris in 2024. We are one of the bluest cities in the country.
I identify as a pragmatic progressive. That simply means that I hold strong progressive personal values but recognize that I live in a bigger world than the confines of my own mind, that is, I live in the real world. We’ve lost the ability to engage in civil and polite discourse and that loss of community is equally attributable to toxic ideologues on the right and toxic ideologues on the left. Those with zero respect for diversity of thought yell and scream over one another and the vast majority who don’t reside in one extreme or the other are labeled… Read more »
